“Best”

On Sale October 26, 2005!

GARNET CROW made their major debut in 2000, and this year marks the fifth anniversary of that debut. Their stance of “making good songs,” unchanged since the group was formed, has deepened their curiosity toward music and, at the same time, led them to build the one-of-a-kind brand sound known as GARNET CROW. At times nostalgic, at times suggesting the future, at times carrying the scent of another country... Their music has a quality that is not bound by time or place, and a power that can draw the listener into the world of a song in an instant. That power has grown with each passing year, and GARNET CROW’s activities have become richer as well.

And so came 2005. Under the banner of “5th Anniversary,” they continued to pursue music with even greater energy. In January, they carried out the live tour “livescope 2005 〜I'm waiting 4 you & live〜”; in May, they simultaneously released the single “Kimi no Omoi Egaita Yume Atsumeru HEAVEN” and the fifth-anniversary DVD “le 5 e me anniversarie” L' Histoire de 2000 a 2005, showing us the path of their music in many different forms. The latest item to color this “5th Anniversary” is GARNET CROW’s “Best.”

In music freak magazine, we will of course introduce this best album. We will also pick up questions for the members, along with messages from readers to the members, based on the voices sent in for the “GARNET CROW Fifth Anniversary Questionnaire” that we solicited in our August issue (Vol.129). ★Q & A GARNET CROW × Readers★

From the questions for GARNET CROW sent in through the “GARNET CROW Fifth Anniversary Reader Questionnaire” solicited in this magazine’s August 10 issue (Vol.129), the editorial team selected several and asked the members to answer them. The questions and answers are as follows. *For this feature, we selected questions that many of you asked, so names have been omitted.

●During these five years of music production, were there any interesting episodes or unbelievable incidents?

Yuri Nakamura (hereafter Nakamura): When we were appearing on TV, I missed the Shinkansen and was about an hour late.

AZUKI Nana (hereafter AZUKI): On the day we were recording a music program, Yurippe was the only one who wasn’t on the train we were taking. I was surprised.

Hirohito Furui (hereafter Furui): There are times when we listen to a demo and work on the arrangement and lyrics at the same time. More than once, when I was shown the lyrics, I thought, “Oh!! This might be perfect for the atmosphere of the backing track,” even though we hadn’t discussed it beforehand. That surprised me (laughs).

●Among GARNET CROW’s songs, which song is your favorite, or which song do you feel especially attached to?

Nakamura:A song I feel attached to → “Yume Mita Ato de.” A song I like → “Mikansei na Neiro.”
AZUKI:This is... I can’t choose.

Hitoshi Okamoto (hereafter Okamoto): There are a lot, but I suppose “mysterious eyes” and “Yume Mita Ato de,” among others. They’re songs I feel attached to.

Furui:I can’t sum that up in one word...

●If you were to express GARNET CROW, or the members, with one kanji character, what would it be?

Nakamura:GARNET → 紅. CROW → 鳥. Hirohito Furui → 師. Hitoshi Okamoto → 匠. AZUKI Nana → 吟.
AZUKI:GARNET CROW → 御輿.
Okamoto:GARNET CROW → 和.
Furui:For Garnet, maybe “響”...

●Please tell us your impressions of the other three members.

Nakamura:Hirohito Furui → 剛. Hitoshi Okamoto → 柔. AZUKI Nana → 活.
AZUKI:All three of them get injured or sick pretty often.
Okamoto:Yuri Nakamura: Songstress. Naturally, she’s the ace striker. She raises the whole team’s energy. AZUKI Nana: She gives off a mysterious aura. A fantasista playing just behind the front line. Hirohito Furui: A dependable man. The key to both offense and defense. He builds the game from the base of midfield.
Furui:Yuri-san = hard worker. Nana-san = action-oriented. Hitoshi-kun = stays-at-home type.

●Is there any job you would like to try besides your current work?

Nakamura:A cafe.
AZUKI:I’d like to try anything.
Okamoto:Piloting a jet.

●What was your dream when you were a student?

AZUKI:To be a painter in Europe.

●If there were a time machine, would you go to the past or the future? And why?

Nakamura:The past → I’d like to meet Murasaki Shikibu and Sei Shonagon.
Okamoto:The future. So I can bring something jaw-droppingly amazing back to the present.
Furui:Maybe I’d take a little peek into the future and prepare accordingly (laughs).

●What was your dream when you were a student?

Okamoto:A wildly popular rock star.
Furui:My dream was to be a musician.

●If you could become an animal, what would you want to be? And why?

Nakamura:A bird → I’d like to fly freely through the wide sky.
Okamoto:A bird. Because I often dream about flying through the sky.

●Is there anything you have been into lately?

Nakamura:Sleeping on organic cotton sheets and futons.
AZUKI:Novels by British writers.
Okamoto:Honey black vinegar.

●What is your mobile phone ringtone?

Nakamura:“Dancing Queen.”
AZUKI:Since I started using a mobile phone, I have never once changed the ringtone. And it is always on silent mode.
Okamoto:HUEY LEWIS & THE NEWS / “The Power of Love.”
Furui:One of the internal tunes.

●If you had a month off, what would you do?

Nakamura:Travel.
AZUKI:Spend my days reading in a rural part of Europe with deep greenery and good air.
Okamoto:Travel, fishing, eating around, watching lots of movies, and so on.
Furui:Lately I feel like studying all kinds of things and growing as a person (laughs).

●If you were going on a trip, where would you like to go?

Nakamura:I want to see the aurora.
AZUKI:Everywhere in the world, as thoroughly as possible.
Okamoto:Anywhere that isn’t extremely hot or cold.
Furui:Anywhere I’ve never been is OK!!

●Ten years from now, what kind of life would you like to be living?

Nakamura:The same life as now.
AZUKI:A life that doesn’t need clocks.
Okamoto:I’d like to spend it laughing.
Furui:I’d like to still be going full force ten years from now!!

●Now that you have reached your fifth anniversary, is there anything you would like to challenge yourselves with from here?

Nakamura:We have a live show coming up in December, so I’d like to try a structure and staging with a different flavor from our live shows so far.
AZUKI:I’m thinking about it.
Okamoto:Continuing to make good music.
Furui:I want to make even better work.
