Year-End Feature: A Musical Journey Through 2001

December has finally arrived again this year. Next year will be 2001: the 20th century will come to an end, and from January onward, we will enter the new 21st century. Many people may be feeling that this moment is somehow special and worth commemorating. As part of this year's year-end feature, we asked the artists to answer the following questions.

1. My five album selections of 2000.
2. One record or song I want to take into the 21st century, and why.
3. What did you imagine the 21st century would be like back then?
4. My goals and things I want to do in 2001.

Yuri Nakamura

1. Five albums

1. the cranberries《everybody else is doing it, so why can't we?》

I love its distinctive atmosphere. I listen to it anytime, anywhere.

2. Alanis Morissette《Supposed Former Infatuation Jankie》

I listen to it over and over again. It's really cool.

3. E.B.G《AMPLIFIED HERT》

I use it as a reference for things like the way they sing.

4. Bjork《POST》

The sound is fantastic.

5. port of notes《more tham paradise》

It makes me feel very calm. I like its mature atmosphere.

2. The record I want to take into the 21st century

GARNET CROW's indie album and debut song. They hold memories for me in many different ways. These are the works that gave GARNET CROW the opportunity to begin making music, so I will take them with me to keep from forgetting how I felt at the beginning.

3. What I imagined the 21st century would be like

Bright, filled with the light of hope. I thought it would be an era when we could casually go to the moon for a visit.

4. Goals and wishes for 2001

I want to travel abroad. I hope even more people will listen to GARNET CROW's music than this year.

AZUKI Nana

1. PETER GABRIEL《Secret World Live》（Video）

This guy is just too cool; I never get tired of watching it.

2. THE ROLLING STONES《GIMME SHELTER》（Video）

Mick is just too adorable.

3. SUZANNE VEGA《Solitude Standing》

No particular reason…

4. Kula Shaker《K》

They broke up… so I listen to it with a sense of regret.

5. Sonic Youth《Washing Machine》

Because it calms me down.

I'm going empty-handed.

Like *21 Emon*!

4. Goals and wishes for 2001

A long trip.

Hiroto Furui

1. Five albums

1. bbmak《sooner or later》

Although it was released at the end of 1999, it's very easy to get into. The refreshing acoustic guitar is perfect for listening to in the car on a clear morning.

2. SING LIKE TALKING《THE REMIX OF SING LIKE TALKING》

An album where you can enjoy remixes by a variety of musicians. For me, it has a strong nighttime feeling.

3. M2M《Shades of Purple》

The cute vocals and the way the chorus opens up make it perfect as background music! (It vaguely reminds me of Wilson Phillips.)

4. Fastball《The Harsh Light Of Day》

The flow of the vocals and melodies feels wonderfully comfortable. For some reason, songs that use honky-tonk piano always lift my spirits.

5. babyface《a collection of his greatest hits》

Babyface really is a genius. It's great whenever I listen to it.

1. MUSE《SHOWBIZ》

When I first heard it, I couldn't help but grin. Hmm, I like it.

2. NINEDAYS《The madding crowd》

Refreshing, with beautiful melodies—just my kind of thing.

3. CATATONIA《equally and blessed》

That voice… ah, it's so good.

4. MILES《MILES》

It has a nice, floaty feel. It's an album you can listen to all the way through.

5. REEF《GETAWAY》

Rock with no fancy tricks. I'm impressed.

2. The record I want to take into the 21st century

If I could really narrow it down to one, I'd quit making music. I'm taking them all with me.

3. What I imagined the 21st century would be like

Cars flying through the sky, with humans and aliens living together.

4. Goals and wishes for 2001

Exercise. I really need to get my body in shape.
