●When releasing this LIVE DVD, did you make any requests about the kinds of footage you wanted included?
Yuri Nakamura (hereafter Nakamura): We had put a lot of thought into the lighting for this show, so we asked them to capture not only the performance scenes but also the beautiful aspects of the staging in a way that would come across.
●What did you think when you watched the footage again?
Nakamura: I felt I could watch it smoothly from beginning to end. At the same time, the nervous excitement of the live show came back to me. In the first song, “Anywhere,” you can tell that I am nervous, and as the concert approaches its finale, you can see my expression relax, so it felt very real.
●What would you point out as highlights?
Nakamura: The theme of this live show was “putting on a show,” so we did not use a standard set list. We left out songs that would always get the audience excited and songs we had performed continuously, and while focusing on tracks from last year's album 『THE TWILIGHT VALLEY』, we also included songs from the first album and decided to perform some songs we had never played before. Since we were also going to make the staging more elaborate, I hope people enjoy that aspect. Until now, we had been focused on simply singing and playing, but after seven years of regular live performances, we had become accustomed to it in a good way. That allowed us to put more thought into the lighting and costumes this time. I would like people to pay attention not only to our singing and playing, but also to the set and lighting.
●The first pressing comes with a CD of live recordings. Why did you decide to include it?
Nakamura: We realized that we had never released live recordings on CD, and since we had some good takes this time, we decided to include them as a bonus of sorts. It is great to enjoy the live show on DVD, but listening to the recordings gives you a different experience. When you hear only the sound, even the sense of reverberation is different, so the immediacy of the live performance comes through. I hope people enjoy that.
●Was it difficult to choose the tracks?
Nakamura: At first we kept saying, “This one, and this one too,” and could not narrow them down easily, but eventually we selected a final group.
●The way you experience the performance on video and the way you experience sound alone are different, aren't they?
Nakamura: Completely different. If you listen with headphones, you start to feel as though you are standing in the middle of the venue, and I think it can be exciting. So when you listen, I want you to put on headphones and play it at a high volume.
●Do you yourself listen to live albums by other artists?
Nakamura: I do. The sense of immediacy is different, after all. They have a quality that studio recordings do not, and I think it is wonderful when the energy or groove that existed only at that moment, on that day, in that venue, on that stage, is turned into a recording. Even if you did not attend the concert, it can make you feel as though you did, and make you want to see the artist live.
●The live recordings are included as an optional bonus this time. Would you like to release an official live album in the future?
Nakamura: This time they are included only with the first pressing, but when I heard the recordings, I honestly thought that we might as well release them properly as a live album (laughs). There were takes that were that good.
●Then, what about holding a concert on the assumption that it will be recorded live...?
Nakamura: I think that would feel a little different. What matters is packaging the momentum and atmosphere of the moment; if the recording were the premise, I feel that those qualities might not come through.
●So there may be a live album in the future.
Nakamura: That is possible.
●The first pressing is something to enjoy both by watching and listening, then.
Nakamura: I think there are many highlights. I hope people will notice that the set list is unusual, and the fact that there are many songs being performed for the first time is another visual and musical highlight. Some songs we have sung before also take on a completely different atmosphere through the string arrangements, and I hope people enjoy that as well.

★ New single “Namida no Yesterday” released July 4!! ★

GARNET CROW has been energetically active this year, with its first simultaneous release of two double A-side singles, “Kaze to RAINBOW / Kono Te o Nobaseba” and “Kono Te o Nobaseba / Kaze to RAINBOW,” reaching No. 6 on the Oricon singles chart on its first appearance (chart dated March 5), followed by the June 27 release of the LIVE DVD “GARNET CROW LIVESCOPE OF THE TWILIGHT VALLEY,” which completely captures last year's live show. On July 4, the group will release the new single “Namida no Yesterday”!
This release has been selected as the opening theme for the hugely popular anime 『Detective Conan』, marking the first time in seven years since their first single, “Mysterious Eyes.” As composer and vocalist Yuri Nakamura explains, “It was written to order for a TV opening, so we were conscious above all of making it catchy and fun,” and the song has a refreshing, catchy quality that is perfect for summer!
The arrangement is also thoroughly focused on an enjoyable listen, with a groovy rhythm track that makes active use of percussion, carefully placed accents, and an exquisite ritardando in the vocal sections, all of which heighten the song's pop appeal. At the same time, the lyrical world AZUKI Nana creates depicts the feelings inside someone who is devotedly in love. Words such as “vanished summer,” “a dream without a continuation,” “when I woke, time had passed,” and “something fleeting” add an essence of the fragility and sadness felt as summer begins and then slips away.
