GARNET CROW will celebrate its tenth anniversary this March. The music freak magazine editorial team has followed and introduced the band since its indie debut. We have collaborated with them in many ways: conducting interviews, having them answer questionnaires, and creating feature pages together. This year, the renewed music freak Es launches［more GARNET CROW life］, a year-long series supporting their tenth anniversary!! In this first installment, we review the albums they have released so far, along with the tenth-anniversary best album『THE BEST History of GARNET CROW at the crest...』, scheduled for release on February 10!!
To mark this memorable first installment, we also received handwritten messages from the members!! We have many more features planned, so please look forward to them!!

This is the complete singles best album released by GARNET CROW just before its tenth anniversary. As a two-CD set containing all 31 singles plus one new song, it is truly a best album worthy of tracing the group's musical history. Because the songs are arranged in release order, listeners can also experience the evolution of GARNET CROW's numbers, which have captivated people with their high-quality sound and uniquely enveloping world. Every track has been remastered, and the major-label debut single “Hashiri Tsuzukete Yuku” appears in the version released during the indie period, while “Natsu no Maboroshi” is also included in another version. These details reveal the care the band put into the set, making it a thoroughly satisfying item. The new song closing the album, “As the Dew,” is an appealing track with a cool, stylish sound. This indie mini-album is indispensable to any account of GARNET CROW's beginnings. From the time the four began working together, they were introduced as a “talented creator collective,” and the music they spun out carried a sense of nostalgia and fragility. Its sound uniquely combines an acoustic feel with a modern bearing, and the high level of musicianship presented here made the album a significant contribution to the pop-music world. “Hashiri Tsuzukete Yuku,” with its ear-catching percussion rhythm and sentimental melody, and “Futari no Rocket,” whose brisk rhythm and poised vocals lift the heart, were later released as singles after their major-label debut, making this a valuable album where listeners can hear the original versions. After four talented creators came together, released an indie album, made their major-label debut, and put out six singles in succession over roughly a year, the four individual colors underwent a musical chemical reaction, blended together, and presented a definite color called GARNET CROW. This was their first major-label album.
Built around a musical style reminiscent of neo-acoustic music, its delicate songs portray “emotions wavering between hope and despair,” gently instilling nostalgia, tenderness, and an almost unbearable poignancy in the heart. This is GARNET CROW magic. Though it was their first album, it radiates overwhelming power and presence, and it has become a work that deserves to be called an eternal standard, never losing its color with time.
The popular track 1, now familiar at live shows and also used as the album's subtitle; track 5, with its poetic, literary lyrics; and track 9, where Nakamura's falsetto brings a pleasant quality, are especially recommended among the songs that let listeners savor the distinctive shadowed appeal unique to an album.（Karen Hayama）
