This March, GARNET CROW reached their 10th anniversary.
As their 10th-anniversary best-of album, “THE BEST History of GARNET CROW at the crest...,” continues to post strong sales, the 10th-anniversary live tour [GARNET CROW Happy 10th Anniversary livescope 2010 〜THE BEST TOUR〜] began on February 27 at Tokyo International Forum Hall A.
This time, in [more GARNET CROW life], the series celebrating their 10th anniversary, we look back at the history of GARNET CROW’s live performances. (The introductions here focus mainly on album tours and premium live shows.)

1. GARNET CROW LIVE TOUR 2002 〜first live scope〜

2002.10.10: Namba Hatch／10.21: Akasaka BLITZ／10.31: Zepp Fukuoka／Additional shows・2002.12.11: SHIBUYA-AX／12.16: Namba Hatch

Their first live tour was a huge success, with every venue selling out on the day tickets went on sale, and additional shows were added. Their high-quality live style—building their own worldview and captivating audiences so completely that they could not look away—was already taking shape at this point. The roughly 90-minute set included indispensable live songs such as “Yume mita ato de” and “Spiral,” making for a rich set list.

2. GARNET CROW livescope 2004 〜Kimi to Iu Hikari〜

Their second live tour was held in concert halls. Bringing the album “Crystallize 〜Kimi to Iu Hikari〜,” they recreated GARNET CROW’s fully developed world of sound. During the performances, the lyrics were projected on a screen, creating a presentation that allowed the audience to savor the depth of the “lyrics” together with the sound. From this tour onward, songs with vocals by Hitoshi Okamoto began to be performed.

3. GARNET CROW livescope 2005 〜I'm waiting 4 you&live〜

2005.1.21: Osaka Koseinenkin Kaikan Grand Hall／1.28: Aichi Prefectural Labor Hall／2.3: Nakano Sunplaza

The tour was held in three cities with the fourth album, “I'm waiting 4 you,” in hand. The flow—opening with songs meant to be listened to closely and gradually heating up in the second half—became even more pronounced on this tour. The shows also began to feature many touches unique to live performances, such as medleys and a new song performed before its release (on this occasion, “Sayonara” to Tatta Hitokoto de...”).

4. GARNET CROW premium live 〜happy 5th anniversary〜

2005.12.16 & 17: Osaka City Central Public Hall

This was a completely invitation-only live show held by GARNET CROW to conclude their fifth anniversary celebrations. At a historic venue built in the Taisho era in the Neo-Renaissance style, the members performed in classical formalwear unified in black, making the event fully deserving of the name “premium.” The set list traced their journey to date, befitting their fifth anniversary.

5. GARNET CROW livescope 2006 〜THE TWILIGHT VALLEY〜

2006.12.6: Osaka Koseinenkin Kaikan Grand Hall／12.20: Nakano Sunplaza Hall

This was the tour for “THE TWILIGHT VALLEY,” their first original album in two years since “I'm waiting 4 you.” It further evolved the GARNET CROW stage they had built over the years, with meticulous attention paid to the set list, costumes, lighting, and even the arrangements of the songs. The performance conveyed how much the members wanted to keep entertaining their audience.

6. GARNET CROW Special live in Ninnaji

2007.10.20: Ninnaji Temple

A special live show held to commemorate GARNET CROW’s “seventh year.” The stage was set against the Nio-mon gate of Ninnaji, a World Heritage site standing in the darkness. Together with the lighting, it transformed into a fantastical space, and the members captivated an audience of 3,000 beneath the gaze of a beautiful moon. It was a precious performance in which the uniqueness of their musical world shone even more brightly.

7. GARNET CROW livescope 2008 〜Are you ready to lock on ?!〜

2008.8.16 & 17: Tokyo・JCB Hall／8.31: Osaka Koseinenkin Kaikan Grand Hall

This was GARNET CROW’s first summer live show. Reflecting the dynamic image of the album “LOCKS,” they incorporated danceable elements and consciously focused on “showing” the audience, creating a fresh kind of stage unlike their usual live performances. The acoustic corner led by Hitoshi Okamoto also included many rare moments, such as Hirohito Furui joining on acoustic guitar and chorus.

8. GARNET CROW livescope 2009 〜Yoake no Soul〜

2009.10.2: Zepp Nagoya／10.12: Yokohama BLITZ／10.18: Zepp Fukuoka／10.22 & 23: Namba Hatch／10.30: Zepp Sapporo／11.07: Zepp Sendai／11.24 & 25: Akasaka BLITZ

This nationwide tour was held in support of their latest original album, “STAY〜Yoake no soul〜.” With a set list mindful of venues they were visiting for the first time and of the live-house setting, the shows felt fresher than ever. In one memorable moment, the members came down from the stage and ran past the very front row of the floor, making this a performance where the sense of unity between members and audience was especially strong.

9. GARNET CROW Special Countdown Live 2009–2010

2009.12.31: NHK Osaka Hall

GARNET CROW’s first countdown live. While retaining the intimate atmosphere of the live-house tour that had closed to great acclaim, including the acoustic corner by YURI NAKAMURA and Hitoshi Okamoto, the show was structured to let the audience listen closely to a collection of deep, substantial songs. During the encore, “As the Dew,” from the 10th-anniversary best-of album, was performed for the first time, a welcome gift for the fans.

The latest tour is currently taking place at seven venues nationwide in support of the 10th-anniversary best-of album, “THE BEST History of GARNET CROW at the crest...”. As a performance literally commemorating their 10th anniversary, the generous set list reveals how much thought they have put into it. Since they had been especially active onstage since the previous year, with a live-house tour and a countdown live, the performances were sure to unfold on an even more powerful scale.
