Members' comments on each GARNET CROW album, excerpted from the fan club newsletter “G-NET” and other publications and posted on the band's official 20th Anniversary Instagram account in June 2021.
Indies 1st Mini Album “first kaleidscope ~君の家に着くまでずっと走ってゆく~” — G-NET vol.2
Okamoto:It gives an unguarded, raw impression. Personally, I think this feel has a flavor we could only have produced back then.
1st Album “first soundscope ~水のない晴れた海へ~” — G-NET vol.5
Nakamura:It's an album we put our hearts into, having done everything we were capable of at this point.
2nd Album “SPARKLE ~筋書き通りのスカイブルー~” — J groove magazine, May 2002
Furui:For me, there were parts of the first album that I made in a very earnest, straitlaced way, so with the second one I felt I wanted things to be a little more natural.
3rd Album “Crystallize ~君という光~” — G-NET vol.4
(Are there any songs you especially enjoyed writing?)
AZUKI:I write every one of them with delight, but... 逃れの町, Endless Desire, Only Stay, 恋することしか出来ないみたいに, 君という光... Oh. That turned into a lot. But truly, giving myself over to the voice and the music to create a work is a kind of pleasure.
4th Album “I'm waiting 4 you” — G-NET vol.9
GARNET CROW: The “4” is the “4” of the four of us, the “4” of our fourth album, and the “for” of “for you.” Through the live shows we have done so far, we truly felt that “there are people waiting for us,” so in return we put into it the feeling that “we need you.”
5th Album “THE TWILIGHT VALLEY” — G-NET vol.16
Rusty Rail
Nakamura:I love its heartrendingly sad lyrics. I think adding the chorus at the end gave its world even more breadth.
Yellow Moon
Furui:Just when I had been thinking I wanted GARNET CROW to try a rhythm like this at least once, along came this song!! I was also able to blend in the powerful guitar phrases well, and I'm satisfied with it.
向日葵の色
Okamoto:It's a song I like. I think people who love the very core of GARNET CROW will surely like it.
マージナルマン
AZUKI:The first time I heard the demo tape, I named it “マージナルマン.” It's one of the rare songs where the title was decided first.
春待つ花のように
Nakamura:This is a song we first performed at the premium live. Whenever I hear it, the scene from that show comes back to me and my heart flutters. It's a very dramatic ballad, so it's a song I'd like you to take the time to listen to closely.
6th Album “LOCKS” — G-NET vol.22
Nakamura:If you have the first-press edition, try looking for all the animals drawn inside. From imaginary dinosaurs to elephants and bats, you'll encounter all kinds of animals and creatures that live in the Garnet world. There's even a “6” carved into a rock; it's very elaborate. That said, for those who want to see the familiar world of GARNET CROW, I recommend the regular edition too.
7th Album “STAY ~夜明けのSoul~” — G-NET vol.28
Fall in Life ~Hallelujah~
Nakamura:The lyric “ぶっとんじゃって〜” completely blew me away (laughs). I thought, am I really allowed to sing this? (laughs)
Stay
Furui:Personally, this was a very rewarding song to work on. I wanted it to be a truly special song, so by my own personal standards, I'm very satisfied with how fully realized it is.
Rainy Soul
Okamoto:It really is my favorite song this time. It's a song I'd like to try singing at karaoke.
Hello Sadness
AZUKI:Contrary to its title, it's a song that somehow makes me excited. I'd like to borrow a little of the freshness of Sagan's work.
8th Album “parallel universe” — G-NET vol.32
tell me something
Nakamura:It turned out to be a pop song that makes your heart flutter. The chorus has such impact in both melody and lyrics that you can't forget it once you've heard it. Even now, I catch myself humming the melody without thinking. I hope you'll all sing along too.
strangers
Furui:This was the last song we made for this album, and I packed all sorts of particular touches into every detail!! I won't explain them here on purpose, but if you can listen with a grin and pick up on all kinds of things, I'd say you're a Furui connoisseur too (laughs).
アオゾラ カナタ
Okamoto:A fun song. A sparkling image. There aren't many kinds of colors, but the image is very vivid and rich. The synth lead solo is a highlight.
迷いの森
AZUKI:The moment I first heard it, I pictured the ballet Giselle. The spirits' dresses fluttering. Fantasy, bewilderment; at the end of the darkness, everything vanishes.
9th Album “メモリーズ” — G-NET vol.36
JUDY
Nakamura:It's a very Garnet-like sound. It became a beautiful song that lets you feel what is distinctively ours: “wistfulness, transience, melancholy.” It's one of my favorites.
静寂のconcerto
Furui:The way it gradually builds and presses in toward the second half makes it well worth listening to, I think. Please picture the scenes in your mind as you listen closely!!
メモリーズ
Okamoto:Garnet-style AOR. The chord work is lovely. And here comes the brass!
英雄
AZUKI:To fight is to be alone. The name “hero” is cruel. Yamato Takeru, a life that dances with the sword.
10th Album “Terminus” — G-NET vol.41
海をゆく獅子
Nakamura:It's my favorite song. I love its dark feel. With the sax added, it became a very grown-up, sexy number. I'd also like you to pay attention to the melody line, which is almost like narration.
白い空
Furui:I tried to express in sound the gentleness and strength that the melody line has.
P.S GIRL
Okamoto:It's hot. I have to make the guitar squeal.
Maizy
AZUKI:From the first listen, it had a world built around the sound “Maizy,” and I wrote out many spellings before choosing one. It isn't in the lyrics, but the lyrics began from imagining this question: ...Maizy, how can I erase the scars that have already been left...?
