The album decline should be smaller, so GC has a chance to win.

Hiroto Furui’s arrangement of “Nazo” is god-tier. Hayama’s made me lose interest. Hayama’s arrangements are pretty ordinary, are they not? I prefer Masao Akashi by comparison, although many of his works sound very much of their era.

Akashi is the best. It is sad that he and Oda, who had long supported Being, left the company completely. Hayama also left Being over the DAI incident, but apparently resumed working with Being about two years ago. Hayama’s recent arrangements are questionable. Knowing his peak period makes it feel even more so.

Hayama’s rearrangement of “Seichi” feels like an arrangement made to let us enjoy Nakamura’s singing style. If they used this arrangement live, I feel it would really hit hard.

Following up on this topic, I also dislike the aggressive use of synthesizers. It suits WANDS and the like, but on GARNET I think the instrumentalists and Ms. Nakamura’s tone would cancel each other out, leaving a half-baked song that is neither art nor disposable pop. Mr. Furui has used that aggressive style on songs like “Komatsu,” including some Conan songs. So I do not think Furui is worse than Hayama; in terms of compatibility, is he not the best arranger for them?

Everyone seems to be having fun talking about “Seichi.” I never liked the song that much, so I do not care much about the arrangement. “Maboroshi” is better. I am also looking forward to how the album’s arrangements will sound.

I quite like the “Seichi” version included on this “Maboroshi” single. The keyboard part sounds as if it could be played with only the left index finger. I also prefer the non-single version of “Yume Mita Ato de.” Ah, does that mean I can never be mainstream...?
