For anyone who sees a warning such as “There is a virus...” after opening this thread: this is an extremely crude prank called a Norton trap. It is easy to deal with. 1. Install a dedicated 2ch browser. 2. Add the folder where the dedicated browser stores its logs to your antivirus exclusion list. See the browser’s website for details. If someone posts strange fixed handles or disgusting phrases that make the thread unreadable: 1. Install a dedicated 2ch browser. 2. Add the phrases or fixed handles you dislike to its ignore settings. See the browser’s website for details.

I bought everything, “Maboroshi” and all. I have never seen a scene at a record shop so painful to the stomach. Many people prepared themselves for one winner in 500. Even when I bought mine, I was prepared to at least get a mini gut guitar. But with numbers that small... — From the memories of a GARNET CROW thread resident.

According to footage shown on *Mugen* recently, the album DVD may include these four songs: “Mysterious Eyes,” “Natsu no Maboroshi,” “Yume Mita Ato de,” and “Spiral.”

I saw something called mixi mentioned in the news (and on the 7 p.m. NHK news too). What is it? Is it different from 2ch? The site says things like “You cannot enter without an invitation!”
29
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/14 23:13 | ID:lAnyuSo10
I think even those four will only be highlights.
30
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/14 23:15 | ID:bcVPg6BS0
Is four songs on a bonus DVD not already pretty good? I do not think they will include all four in full either.

>>29 Saegusa’s bonus DVD looks quite lavish too, so I hope this reaches that level. Kuraki’s was just an extremely perfunctory collection of PVs and making-of footage... (1) The popular promotional videos “Fall in Love” and “Everybody Jump” are included in full with behind-the-scenes footage. “Everybody Jump” especially includes an extended promotional video with previously unreleased scenes. (2) *U-ka saegusa IN db LIVE EVENT COLLECTOR’S EDITION*: footage from live events held around Japan for the releases of “Kimi no Ai ni Tsutsumaretai,” “Ai no Wana,” “Fall in Love,” and “Everybody Jump,” edited together from the performances, backstage footage, and backstage commentary.

名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/14 23:27 | ID:dz2VG5fF0

34
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/14 23:29 | ID:4MJmLtc80
>>33 Rather than an album with live highlights attached, a normal album with a DVD would help much more. It would be fine if they simply included a full DVD without separating first-press and regular editions.

Details on the tracks on *THE TWILIGHT VALLEY* (skipping the singles). The main source is magazine articles. If anyone knows anything else, please add it. ◆ “Anywhere” — A grand song with a strong GARNET CROW feel. ◆ “Rusty Rail” — A warm, delicate song. ◆ “Kakurenbo” — Latin-flavored. Like “Marionette,” it has a strong contrast between music and lyrics. I hear the lyrics are especially frightening. ◆ “Himawari no Iro” — A minor-key song of the sort GARNET CROW does well. ◆ “Marginal Man” — A song that gives a feeling of drifting. ◆ “Yellow Moon” — The lyrics are so passionate that even Yurippe supposedly cannot sing them. I hear Nana wrote the lyrics twice. ◆ “Mō Chotto Sagashite Mimashō” — The last song to be completed. Bright and powerful. ◆ “Haru Matsu Hana no Yō ni” — A song with a dramatic development like “Kyō Kimi Ashita Kimi.” ◆ “WEEKEND” — A jazz-flavored song.

> “Himawari no Iro” — A minor-key song GARNET CROW does well. > “WEEKEND” — A jazz-flavored song. Apart from those two, I am suddenly extremely excited about everything! “So passionate that she cannot sing it”—what does that mean? Is it too erotic?

I have received many questions about the differences between the first-press and regular editions of the new album *THE TWILIGHT VALLEY*, released October 4, so I will answer on everyone’s behalf! 1) First, the cover photo is different. 2) The back cover is different too. 3) All photos and design used in the booklet are different. 4) The interior packaging design is different. 5) The label design (disc surface) is different. 6) Only the first-press edition has a bonus: a highlights DVD from last year’s Premium Live. In other words, the first-press and regular editions have no photos or designs in common at all! Perfect... lol
49
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/15 01:04 | ID:TzOOy1/i0
>>48 What? Not only the cover, but the booklet and packaging are different too...? Has GIZA really sunk to the point of doing something this blatant?

51
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/15 01:10 | ID:efKFZ++30
>>49 It is even more lavish than Kuraki’s, lol. Kuraki had three versions, with different cover photos and disc surfaces, lol. More precisely, the packaging design was the same even though the photos differed; the booklet and back cover used the same photo session. We will have to see whether that is also true for GARNET’s.
52
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/15 01:11 | ID:lqDKx5qQ0

“Yume・Hanabi” had slightly different contents between the regular and first-press editions. I panicked and bought both, but later regretted it a little because they were not worth buying two copies for. Things like a silent version and an a cappella version.
58
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/15 01:22 | ID:efKFZ++30

I am short on money, so honestly I am in the “as long as I can listen to it” camp. But if you truly love GARNET, you should probably buy both. I bought only the first press of “Atsumeru MÄR Heaven,” and this time I will probably buy only the first press too.

List of bad fixed IDs in the GARNET CROW thread — true revised edition. The post profiles several recurring handles: edz@g, a self-styled anime fan who has become less and less popular; Hotaruika, who treats 2ch like a doodle pad and mostly discusses other artists; an edz@g impersonator who provokes people; Manmosu, an obnoxious person who thinks he has excellent Western-music taste; Ahh-Namikoshi, who occasionally posts about Yuri Nakamura’s body; Shiori Takei, a weekend troll who alternates between a fixed handle and anonymous posts; and “Minna Shinebaiinoni,” a frequent troll who uses the same trip as Takei, contradicts himself about retiring the handle, and keeps posting despite being ignored. The post concludes that these people do not understand ordinary language and should not be engaged.

Quoted older posts alleging that Premium Live seating was assigned not purely by number: conspicuous or unpleasant-looking men were moved toward the back, while women and attractive people were favored for front-row tickets. One post summarizes the supposed strategy as “GARNET fans: anime otaku and creepy men” becoming “GARNET fans: couples, handsome men, and young women.”

More old posts claim that the first women shown on the screen were probably staff or arranged participants, and that attendees were treated differently based on sex and appearance. They allege that creepy otaku were pushed to the sides and rear, while women were overrepresented in the low-numbered seats.

GIZA cannot sell records, so it caters to otaku → ordinary people leave → it becomes an underground-idol scene → staff and singers become even more familiar with otaku → ordinary people leave → a vicious cycle. The Premium Live was apparently intended to break that cycle, but regulars received advance information about the selection criteria. As a result, light fans were almost entirely eliminated, producing the opposite effect. In reality, nearly all the regulars got in...

Older posts joke about the ages of several notorious fans, saying Shiorina is the same age as the poster, Mazin is 29, and the first two Aiuchi fans are probably in their thirties. The post says the fan base is aging and jokes that Shiorina wears short sleeves in winter and therefore never catches cold.

The regulars such as Mazin have terrible manners, according to the poster. A collection of old quotes accuses Mazin of cutting from the back to the front at multiple lives, pushing people aside, and abusing his status as a regular. The posts call for him to be banned from Bakery Factory lives and suggest sending complaint emails.

>>119 If the catalog number is different, you can still buy it as long as CD shops have not sold out. The same is true of used shops. If it is an initial-production edition with the same catalog number, the bonus is attached to the regular product rather than sold separately, so CD shops will not know to stock it, and the same applies to used shops. For GARNET examples: first-press editions include “MÄR” and “Yume・Hanabi,” each with separate catalog numbers and bonuses. Initial-production bonuses include the fifth-anniversary release with a booklet, the best album with a calendar and Premium Live entry ticket, “Hare-dokei” with MÄR stickers, “Wasurezak i” with a possibly different booklet and case, and “Mysterious Eyes” with what may have been a Conan card. In short, a first-press edition is sold as a separate product from the regular edition, while an initial-production edition is the bonus-bearing first batch of the regular product. Sorry if I have explained this confusingly.

>>168 “When you live in the night / remember my voice / waiting to be fill.” Literally, it would be “When you live in that night, remember my voice waiting to become something that fills a gap.” “Fill” can at least function as a noun meaning material used to fill a gap. If this is not a lyric-card typesetting error and Nana really intended the passive construction, it is embarrassing. Nana has made repeated mistakes in English lyrics, so the English sections should really be checked by someone knowledgeable first. I mean that sincerely as a fan.

I majored in English. >>172 This probably belongs in the Nana thread, but I agree that this is roughly the translation. Nana often writes English by feel, choosing words based on whether their imagery and sound fit. >>184 Same here. No matter how hard Hayama tries, he cannot beat the original, so rather than making this half-baked ballad arrangement, I would prefer him to completely destroy it and make a 1990s Being-style band sound like WANDS, DEEN, or Field of View. A collaboration between GARNET and Being at its peak. But I hope this kind of experiment ends here.

I watched *Kasōken* once. Although it is the ending theme, the song only plays quietly in the background during the drama and is almost impossible to hear. Even someone deliberately listening for GARNET would struggle, so I doubt it has much effect on ordinary viewers.

The first asks what is noteworthy about the rise of “clean office-worker” male ideals alongside popular “beloved office-lady” models; the answer is “the gaze of women.” The second asks what modern social trend is responsible for increasing fear of public flatulence; the answer is “a Westernized diet.” Links to the source articles follow.

Relationship between advance-single sales and the following album: 6th single “flying”: peak 25, 9 chart appearances, 49,390 copies. 1st album *first soundscope — Mizu no Nai Hareta Umi e*: peak 6, 5 appearances, 87,150 copies. 10th single “Yume Mita Ato de”: peak 6, 10 appearances, 93,300 copies. 2nd album *SPARKLE — Sujigaki Dōri no Sky Blue*: peak 4, 9 appearances, 156,410 copies. 14th single “Kimi to Iu Hikari”: peak 7, 10 appearances, 35,190 copies. 3rd album *Crystallize — Kimi to Iu Hikari*: peak 5, 13 appearances, 84,071 copies. 17th single “Wasurezak i”: peak 14, 6 appearances, 25,950 copies. 4th album *I’m waiting 4 you*: peak 11, 10 appearances, 64,347 copies. Advance-single sales do seem to affect the next album, so surpassing the fourth album is entirely imaginable.

I think the C/W track on “Yume・Hanabi” is ordinary. “Tabi” and “Rinrin” are not bad, but I wish they would mix in more minor-key songs. In that respect, the contrast between “Ushinawareta” and “Nonsense” on “EDEN” works well. Still, please do not release a single with only one C/W and make it merely a different arrangement><

Normally, I think the best album is the best place to start. If you find songs you like there, or realize you might become a GARNET fan, you will naturally explore the older singles and other albums. If you start looking up Yurippe and Nana on fan sites too, joining the GARNET CROW religion is only a matter of time. Some people here say, “Start with the C/W tracks!” and I can only think, “Idiots.” There is plenty of time to get hooked on C/W and album tracks later.

>>296 These kinds of replies keep appearing lately, and I do not know how to feel. Can I interpret it positively as the fan base gradually growing? I recommend the best album. Listen to that first, then reach out in different directions to explore the rest. If you like the solemnity or madness of progressive rock or metal (GARNET is not those genres, of course), the third album may also be good. Looping “Nogar e no Machi” from it several times is enough to sink into GARNET’s fascinating sound. How many times have I said this already... lol

Personally, I think starting with the first album is the easiest way to get drawn into GARNET. Even though it has many singles, the overall flow is so good that you barely notice which are singles and can enjoy a balanced mix of singles and album tracks. I lent the second album to a non-fan and got a great response; perhaps its moderate lightness makes it accessible. The best album may be good for beginners, but are new people coming here lately not mostly here because of “Maboroshi”? If they want that sound, I think the first or third album is a better fit.

>>237 I do not know whether you were serious or joking, but terminology should be used accurately when communicating with others, and I support correcting errors. As for ID:DEE4AGp10’s “advance single,” >>228 makes it clear that they meant every single released before the album. By contrast, as >>248 says, ID:gtG8geSB0 means a single released about a month before the album, which is probably the more common usage. But there is nothing wrong with analyzing the relationship between sales and the album using the former definition. The same issue often arises with the expressions “mato wo eru” versus “mato wo iru.” Language does not need to be policed excessively at the word level in an argumentative essay. What matters most is the claim and its evidence. Use terms consistently and define them clearly; otherwise debates about who knows what become unproductive. Even a minor wording error does not reduce an argument’s value, while flawed data or statistical analysis can reduce it to zero.

Too many people use the word “god” casually. You can have many favorite songs, but “god-tier song” should refer to only a tiny number of them.

Ah, that answers >>411. I am not that fond of it... The intro is quite plain too. An old post argues that, despite everything, this is better than another group repeatedly releasing bad songs. For Ueki, it would be wiser in the long run to carefully develop her and keep providing good songs instead of chasing immediate sales.

432
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/18 11:06 | ID:wynVp1560
The reality is that MÄR songs have hardly become hits. Honestly, rather than GARNET relying on MÄR, MÄR is relying on GARNET. It is annoying.

435
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/18 11:17 | ID:o/rHj5hGO
>>432 Is that so? From GIZA’s perspective, they probably think making it a MÄR song will add at least a little to GARNET’s sales, which is why they use the tie-in. But what benefit does MÄR get from using a GARNET song? It feels as if any artist would do and GARNET was chosen for no clear reason. Leaving aside “Atsumeru MÄR Heaven,” modern anime rarely has old-fashioned “anime songs.” Even “Atsumeru MÄR” only forces the title into the chorus; as a whole it is not an especially stereotypical anime song.
436
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/18 11:19 | ID:IfWiiIea0
>>429 The emotional quality of the early period was neatly shaved away. Pleasant melodies and reasonably layered arrangements are lined up as a collection of half-baked songs. It completely ignores Ueki’s punkish image. Before even discussing song quality, the black-and-white album concept itself is strange; it is unclear what “black” and “white” signify. >>431 MÄR attaching itself to us has caused a lot of trouble.
437
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/18 11:22 | ID:wynVp1560
>>435 I genuinely do not understand what GIZA is thinking. It is hard to reach a conclusion, but one thing is certain: it is absolutely not beneficial to either side.
438
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/18 11:24 | ID:wynVp1560
>>436 “Natsu no Aru Hi” is the worst. Rather than pandering to ordinary listeners, it would be better in the long run to make an album that satisfies longtime fans from the indie era. GIZA greedily wants to add ordinary fans too, and gets carried away as soon as something sells.
439
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/18 11:28 | ID:o/rHj5hGO
>>437 Yes. Not only GARNET CROW, but at some point the whole music industry developed the attitude that every song must be tied to some TV program. That trend has even invaded the otaku-oriented anime world, which feels unfortunate for both artist fans and anime fans.

>>437 Personally, among the MÄR tie-ins, only “Hare-dokei” and “Yume・Hanabi” are barely good. This is the harm MÄR has caused: it narrowed GARNET’s worldview beautifully. >>438 Exactly. That song is terrible, especially the lyrics. Even considering the music and arrangement, I think it is the worst. Though the whole album has bad lyrics: “I want you to hold me first~,” “Please hold me even if I am covered in wounds~”... It does not fit Ueki’s image at all and is painfully tacky.
442
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/18 11:56 | ID:wynVp1560
>>439 GIZA is different. Its strategy is to desperately secure tie-ins and then release every one as a single. That is why we got three consecutive monthly releases. The members themselves said they did not expect it.
443
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/18 11:58 | ID:wynVp1560
>>441 I dislike “Yume・Hanabi.” It does not feel like GARNET and sounds like an old kayōkyoku song. “Hare-dokei” and “EDEN” are barely acceptable. I can tolerate “Kizudarake demo Dakishimete” if I ignore the lyrics. This is off topic, so let us stop here.

名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/18 12:05 | ID:/KYhu2+XO
I think tie-ins are no longer necessary. They may be indispensable for increasing sales, but GIZA’s characteristic is that almost only fans buy the releases anyway. If tie-ins with little effect are unnecessary, I wish they would let the artist make music freely.

>>443 If we are talking about what does not sound like GARNET, all of them qualify, lol. “Yume・Hanabi” has hard guitar riffs, a rushing melody, and a powerful modulation; it deviates from GARNET’s musicality but is still interesting and good. I dislike “EDEN” because the intro through the A section creates an appropriately dark mood, but the chorus is inexplicably too catchy. The song’s structure feels scattered.

If recent GARNET songs feel strange to someone, I think they should listen to rock and pop from the 1980s and ’90s. It is not about generations or which is better; music from that era had a different kind of variety. Furui occasionally borrows things from that period too.

I attended the early listening event. I entered the first session; fewer than 100 people came. The seats were mostly full, but nothing unusual happened. The Premium Live footage included “Hare-dokei” in full, though it is unclear whether that means it will be on the DVD. Yurippe’s outfit was cute. As for the new album, there are no obvious throwaway tracks. Yurippe also seemed confident when introducing the songs, which was reassuring. Skipping the singles, my five favorites are below. The first album track is a god-tier song as usual. Overall it has a stronger rock flavor, and the acoustic guitar sounds great. Photos of AZUKI appeared throughout the lyric background. “Anywhere”: It was not played in full, but Yurippe said it was the hardest song for her to sing. The lyrics and music feel dark and very GARNET-like; it seems like a song that grows on you. “Kakurenbo”: The lyric rhythm is good. It may be Latin-flavored, with an atmosphere like “Bokura Dake no Mirai.” “Himawari no Iro”: A song with a nostalgic GARNET feel. “Haru Matsu Hana no Yō ni”: They played the live version, and since it was my first time hearing it, the melody did not stick much; it also seems like a grower. “WEEKEND”: Its style and lyrics make it perfect as the album’s closing track.

I went to the listening event. They handed out the full lyrics when we entered, which made me happy, but took them back when we left, which was disappointing. Still, otherwise they would certainly leak. There seemed to be numbered tickets left. Apparently they did not even reach 300 people. Brief impressions: “Anywhere” → The structure resembles “Yūzuki yo” or “U.” “Rusty Rail” → A very GARNET-like mid-tempo song. I personally like it. “Kakurenbo” → The lyrics are scarier than expected. The combination with the Latin style is uncanny. Yurippe apparently likes it best; I like it too. “Himawari no Iro” → Apparently written with a certain painter as its model. It did not leave a strong impression. “Marginal Man” → A bright song that feels likely to become a live staple. “Yellow Moon” → Rock-flavored like “Nogar e no Machi.” The lyric writing may be somewhat unusual. “Mō Chotto Sagashite Mimashō” → Feels like it will be lively live. The pitch is very high, which surprised me (high E?). “WEEKEND” → Feels like the album’s theme itself: a calm song suited to a sunset.

I went to the second session. Memorable points: the person in the front row played air drums along with the songs, which was hilarious. Yurippe explained each song while playing background music. The explanations were nice, but honestly I wanted to hear only the songs. “Haru Matsu,” and all non-single songs, ended after just one chorus; some even started at the chorus, so we barely heard them. Everyone received a lyric photocopy, which was collected at the end. A signed “Maboroshi” was displayed. The “God Hand” cocktail was not good. The line that stuck with me was, “Because I am an oni, lol.” I may write a musical report later.

>>599 “Progressive rock” originally means rock that is progressive★ Absorbing classical elements and pursuing grand, large-scale works was innovative at the time, but now so many bands only imitate that formula that it has declined into a mere stylistic convention. That is why even symphonic German-prog bands and groups like Davis Heat are treated as progressive, and techno can also be categorized as progressive. If we use the original meaning and apply it to the third album, then the third album is genuinely 100% progressive★ Your discomfort probably comes from the strong image of progressive rock after it became a stylistic convention★

名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/19 17:04 | ID:ORKi8NHR0
Can I rant here? Is criticizing it off topic? Never mind. Why does “Maboroshi” have only a previously released “Holy ground” as its C/W? I expected a much bigger change, but only the backing accompaniment after the original part changed; the melody and song itself are identical. What is the purpose of this arrangement? Did they simply have no song suitable for a C/W? The “EDEN” C/W was also unlike their previous C/W tracks and not interesting to listen to. Was there any point in forcing three consecutive monthly releases? I would rather they take more time to polish the songs. Compared with early GARNET, current GARNET feels to have lost its sparkle. Have they reached their limit...?

No. 7: “Maboroshi,” GARNET CROW, 13,347 copies. Because its daily-chart trend was good, I expected around 17,000, but it did not reach that. Since it is an advance single, some people probably chose not to buy it yet.

>>599 Calling something progressive can involve heavy synth use, odd time signatures, or an album functioning as a single work or concept album. Most people do not define it theoretically; they just casually feel that something has a progressive-rock flavor. So “a little progressive” is a loose judgment. People who like neo-acoustic music with pop brightness, a little darkness, and a unique floating quality; early songs with everyday imagery and warm melodies such as “Kimi n’chi,” “Sen Ijō,” and “Futari no Rocket”; or songs with a strong sense of life and death and grand, beautiful arrangements—would those people generally dislike songs after “Atsumeru MÄR”? I do not care if they hold no live shows, so I want them to make good music, especially good lyrics. Recent GARNET lyrics feel old-fashioned. After more than five years, she still cannot handle English or pseudo-classical Japanese. The rhythm, storytelling, and everything else are ruined by a suspicious awkwardness that makes you stumble at first glance.
774
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/20 00:59 | ID:fpcLyrp80
GARNET live shows are less about getting hyped and more about listening seriously. Still, is GARNET partly responsible for the lack of energy? The most they have to drive the atmosphere is something like “Spiral,” and it all depends on Yurippe’s condition that day, lol.
775
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2006/09/20 01:05 | ID:In1QyunR0

For me, trying every day for no reason to catch an upward draft would be exhausting, so I just wait for the right moment and plunge straight down. Mountains and valleys are things you eventually have to come back from, whether you climb high or fall low, so in the end you return to the starting point. Of course, I am not saying you should do the same.

By the time of the live show, everyone will already be having year-end parties. Saturday or Sunday really would be better.

Have you heard the three songs from the fifth album? “Yeloow MooN” is moving just from the chorus. Is writing the N in “MooN” as a capital letter one of Nana’s little touches? I like “Marginal Man” too. “Mou Chotto...” is a fairly upbeat song. The melody makes me curious.

Come to think of it, I was wondering why searches from Sapporo were so numerous, but they have dropped again recently. http://www.google.com/trends?q=GARNET+CROW&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all

>>957 I thought the same thing a while ago. But the second album is one that greatly expands their musical range, so it makes you think, “Oh, they can make songs like this too.” Come to think of it, the second album’s sound is really simple for Gane. Compared with the third album, the difference surprised me.

“Please” and “Nogar e” seem a little similar in places (or is it just me?). But if it were put on the third album, it would not be cheap enough. It is probably fine on the second album after all.

I was putting together members to form a band, but when I said we would play GARNET CROW covers, someone ran away. Why? For the record, the vocalist is female.
