◆ Please use sage. Casual, peaceful conversation is encouraged.
◆ Don't cause trouble for other people.
◆ Don't post fake information; it just annoys people.
◆ Trolls, people who bump threads, negative fantasizers, fans who drag in other artists, creeps,
and people who demand things are mostly baiting or trying to stir things up. Ignore them completely.
◆ Remember that this is an anonymous forum. People get annoyed by persistent handles.
◆ If you can't stand a post, use your browser's filters to block IDs, fixed handles, words, and so on.
◆ Mobile users often can't filter obnoxious regulars and trolls, so it may look like they're not ignoring them.
You must ignore them completely. If you engage, you're just like the trolls.
◆ Avoid wording or posts that make you look pathetic.
◆ Hardcore Yuri Nakamura worshippers are not allowed in this thread. Use the dedicated thread.
◆ The next thread should be started by >>950. No subtitles, though. Keep template edits reasonable.
◆ If someone starts an outrageous thread, people may request its deletion, so be careful.
◆ No virus code or reposting old messages.
◆ Strongly discouraged: one person talking to themselves under a fixed handle.
If you see that sort of thing, pity them and ignore them gracefully.
◆ Always ignore posts by obnoxious fixed handles.
If you engage, you're just as pathetic.

I knew someone like that would show up, lol.
Ahhh, lately whenever I listen to GARNET, I keep imagining, “What if they performed this on Music Station...?”
The audience would be stunned too, then after the performance they'd be like, “WOOOOOOO!!” and burst into applause.

Seems like the “Nana project” will just end with the second collaboration with Hachimaru that was announced a while ago.

Maybe everyone panicked because Yurippe casually let something slip at the live show?

edz@g ◆P2unpRNWwM
Commonly known as Edozag.
He used to get defensive whenever anyone called him an anime nerd,
but lately he turns that anime-nerd side of himself into a running joke.
Fewer and fewer people respond to him now, which is kind of sad to watch.
At first he didn't even know how to use sage or set a tripcode,
but now he's completely hooked—he even uses 2ch at work.
Hotaruika ◆5b/4Q4KG6k
An obnoxious regular who thinks 2ch is something like the back of a flyer.
Mostly talks about artists other than GARNET CROW.
Even when people tell him to use sage, he doesn't; he completely ignores those replies.
For that matter, he also ignores replies that are inconvenient for him.
Probably one of the worst kinds of regular. Somebody stop him.
edz@g ◆.cOjTjK0LY
An impersonator pretending to be Edozag.
If you ask why he only changed his tripcode, he'll ramble on and on.
Even Edozag himself has told him, “Don't use someone else's fixed handle,” but he ignores that too.
His replies are the same old provocations. Best not to engage.
Mammoth
Not a fixed handle, but the guy who puts “sage Mammoth” in the email field.
He's been showing up a lot lately.
From his replies, he seems like a pitiful guy who thinks he has great musical taste.
Apparently his favorite artists are Gimmes, Lagwagon, 18 Wheeler, and TEB.
People like this are probably why others say, “That's what's wrong with Western-music snobs...”
Ahha Namikoshi ◆WWkTvYxtEs
Doesn't show up often, but whenever he does, he makes a couple of comments about Yuri Nakamura's body—especially her chest or lips—then disappears.
No idea when he'll show up; he's hard to figure out.
Not sure if he qualifies as a total creep, but he bumps the thread too.
Shiori Takei ◆DLFTWsKbr.
A troublemaking regular who turns up every weekend and hangs around here all day. He bumps the thread too.
He posts both under his fixed handle and anonymously, but the ID is the same, so it's obvious. Pretty pathetic.
His posts are basically him talking to himself, which is embarrassing.
He uses Shiori Takei's name, but is probably a hater.
Recently he claimed he'd graduated from the board; we'll see what happens.
Minna Shineba Ii noni ◆DLFTWsKbr.
Usually appears in the morning and evening on weekdays, but can show up at any time.
At night and on days off, he practically lives here.
After losing the lottery for a premium live show, he got frustrated and started posting things that make him look awful as a person.
He loves replying to other people's replies, but completely ignores anything that puts him in a bad light. Really nasty.
For some inexplicable reason, he and Takei use the same tripcode with their fixed handles. Is he the successor?
He once said he was retiring his fixed handle, then immediately took it back. His words and actions are often inconsistent.
He doesn't bump the thread and seems to genuinely like GARNET deep down, but he comes across as a troll.
Recently, even though everyone here has completely stopped responding to him, he keeps posting desperately,
trying to get attention by putting on a Kansai dialect.
At the Valentine's Day live show, he dropped his fixed handle to join the conversation,
pretending to be an anonymous poster like nothing was up. What a coward.
Basically, none of these people understand plain language, so please don't engage with them.

The English Wikipedia says “Mysterious Eyes” is a rip-off. I cracked up.
Though I can see why people say it sounds similar.

What's “Nazo-me”?
53
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2007/01/03 02:33 | ID:yo8Sl5bp0
Don't translate everything into Japanese.
Something like “Holy Ground” is understandable, but “Nazo-me” just looks embarrassing.

Oh, I get it, lol. You mean “Mysterious Eyes,” lol.

55
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2007/01/03 04:16 | ID:XLj+aNMA0
I think “mysterious” means something like “enigmatic.”
“Mystery” would be the word for “a mystery.”
>>54
You spelled it “Misterious.” No way you're a genius, lol.

57
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2007/01/03 06:06 | ID:wYuDWi3w0
No one has to teach it; most Japanese people know the usual rules for shortening Japanese titles.
It's so obvious that I can't find a source, but here's the general idea:
http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%91%BD%E5%90%8D
Usually you take about the first four characters, or combine words into a four-character abbreviation.
“Mysterious Eyes” becomes “Misuteri” or “Misteri”; “Hashiri Tsuzukete Yuku, Kimi no Ie made” becomes “Kimi no Ie” or “Kimunchi.”
“Last love song” becomes “Rasurabu”; “Nakenai Yoru mo Nakanai Asa mo” becomes “Nakenaka.”
Exceptions: “Koyoi Eden no Katasumi de” can be “Koyoi Eden,” “Eden,” or “Eden no Katasumi”; “Yofuke no Ryuuseitachi” can be “Yofuke no Ryuusei,” “Yofuke,” or “Ryuusei.”
Since abbreviations can be hard to understand, it's best not to shorten things too much.
“Blue no Mori de” isn't that long, so it doesn't get shortened. Nobody calls it “Aomori.”
“Holy Ground” is fine because that's how it's referred to in the lyrics.

The Chinese version is interesting. It seems to mistake the crow for an auspicious symbol in Japan.
>>57
Counterexample: shimenawa (sacred straw rope).

“Nazo-me” is so stupid, lol.
60
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2007/01/03 07:30 | ID:wYuDWi3w0
>>58
When Japanese people hear “crow,” do they think of the Yatagarasu?
The G-NET crow has two legs, but it kind of gives that impression too.
I looked it up, but I still don't see what shimenawa has to do with abbreviations. Could you explain, if you don't mind?
61
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2007/01/03 09:11 | ID:pqUYLFpk0
“Aomori” is pretty common on 2ch too.
And if we're limiting it to 2ch, there are things like “kurige” as well, lol.
Basically, it depends on whether other people use the same abbreviation.
Still, this is the first time I've heard “Nazo-me,” lol.
62

What a shame.

65
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2007/01/03 11:14 | ID:RPSABLCW0
After I posted it, people said things like:
・The voice is gross.
・It has a dark image and a distinct identity.
・The quality is pretty high.
・Both of them are beautiful.
・They don't need a vocalist; let the keyboardist sing.
・The tunes and vocals are good, but the arrangement hasn't caught up.
It sounds cheap.
・A Neo-acoustic knockoff.
・A band for people with adolescent angst to show off about.
・High-quality J-pop. I like it.
And so on.
66
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2007/01/03 11:25 | ID:vDJMbeZt0
It's true that they'd probably sell better if Nana were the vocalist.
I'd like to see Nana smiling as she sings with a microphone,
instead of Yurippe standing there expressionless.

Besides, it feels like Azuki only goes on live shows and TV because Yurippe is there to carry things.

Wouldn't those opinions change a lot depending on the song?

By the way, why did she choose the name AZUKI?
I can think of various reasons for “Nana,” like the seven colors of the rainbow, but I don't really get the AZUKI part.
Still, maybe that mystery is part of the appeal.

The other day, my girlfriend played “Over Blow” for me on piano, and it reminded me what a great song it is.
She didn't have sheet music, so she worked it out by ear (the chords and arrangement were her own).
Are there really no sheet-music books for their songs? It'd be great if they published one, even just with the singles.

Compared with other J-pop, GARNET CROW has a lot of ballads, so they're hard to play (maybe because every mistake stands out), but the songs are beautiful.
The lyrics are often sad, so even the person playing them seems to get choked up, and the listener gets choked up too.

They do have a lot of heartbreak lyrics, but I think listening to them together as a couple could deepen the bond between two people.
As singles, “Wasurezaki” and “Kimi to Iu Hikari” have beautiful lyrics and seem like songs that should sell well.

You said you wanted a serious answer, so let me say a few things.
First, people on 2ch will attack that kind of wording without hesitation.
Also, you opened with “reclusive, otherworldly quality.” Do you think most people know what that means?
If you'd explained it in your post, that would be one thing, but you just added “Yosa Buson would be a good comparison.” Do you think that explains anything?
I just looked it up in the dictionary: “reclusive” means cutting ties with society and living alone. Do you think that's a word most people understand?
Everything else you wrote used ordinary words, but right there you suddenly chose an obscure term most people would never use.
That makes it look like you recently came across it in a book and used it to show off: “Look how sophisticated I am.”
People can see right through that. Fine, I'll let that part slide.
Even so, you could have added a quick explanation of what you meant. Instead you tacked on “Yosa Buson is a good comparison” to show off your knowledge again.
You probably just learned about that whole “reclusive” thing from something you read about Buson, anyway.
As a result, no one can tell what actually attracts you to the band. Your post is just self-indulgent.
If you'd started with something like “that feeling of being cut off from the world,” I might have been more willing to offer an opinion.
If you want people to answer seriously, start by changing that attitude.
What am I doing writing such a long reply on my phone...

名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2007/01/04 02:38 | ID:ctkb3cUQ0

133
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2007/01/04 02:43 | ID:TXjfyNnQ0
The gap between the filler and the good songs on the fifth album is so big that listening to the whole thing at once is exhausting.
134
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2007/01/04 02:47 | ID:o7AfHTF40
I thought that at first too, but how do I put it? There's a richness to that dense sound that gets addictive.
On the other hand, if you listen only to the fifth album for a while, the other albums start to feel strangely light.
And while some parts are definitely over the top, I really like this intense vocal style.
Your impressions really do change after three months.

Besides the album version of “Maboroshi,” which songs do you mean by filler?
136
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2007/01/04 02:58 | ID:o7AfHTF40
That's hard to say.
The unpopular ones are probably the album version of “Maboroshi” and “Yellow Moon.”
I put the single version second on the album too.
And then there's “Eden,” which got a lot of criticism.
But I've started liking “Eden” too. Overall, you can really feel that it's still a GARNET song.
The soft sound effects, slightly cryptic lyrics, light, bouncy singing, and the way the guitars intertwine in the instrumental break...
The song structure is just pretty simple.
When I first heard it, I thought, “What kind of awful song is this? Seriously?”
GARNET is such an interesting band.
137
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2007/01/04 03:04 | ID:ctkb3cUQ0
“Yellow Moon” is unpopular...? I absolutely love it.

138
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2007/01/04 03:11 | ID:o7AfHTF40
You can't generalize. If anything, the stretch from “Rai Rai Ya” to “Yellow Moon” is probably the heaviest part.
I think it must've been hard to decide the track order. I don't dislike the songs themselves, though.
Anyway, I'm going to bed. Sorry.

I'd rather they didn't appear.
Though I'd like to say that, they really have to perform “Kono Te wo Nobaseba” on Music Station.

Do you think they'll put out a “MÄR Heaven” album sometime this year?
Maybe remixes of the songs they've already released, plus two or three new songs as image songs.
Even as a tie-in album, it seems like it could sell reasonably well.

Looks like it might sell pretty well.
It's a strange marketing strategy, but since they've reversed which track is the A-side, otaku will probably buy both versions.
And anime fans aged 7–10, as well as people around 16–30, will probably buy it too.
I haven't heard “Kono Te wo Nobaseba” even once yet, so I'm really excited.
This is my first single release since becoming a fan.

I watched Hitoshi Okamoto Night,
and I can't tell if it was the filming or Yurippe's makeup, but something looked strange—kind of unsettling.
Maybe her eyes looked dead...
When she sang “Rai Rai Ya” on Music Station, her face seemed much livelier.
Now she feels a little off. Her voice also seems different from the Premium LIVE.

Lately, Yurippe's eyes have reminded me of Mayumi Ogawa a few times.
Her makeup around last year's Premium Live, when she sang “Rai Rai Ya” on Music Station,
and her face in the current photo on the official site where she's the only one looking this way.
Doesn't she look similar?

“Hitoshi Okamoto's predictable lame jokes are, to put it simply... kind of pointless.”
Ms. Nakamura was complaining to the support members and GIZA staff like this.
It happened after Hitoshi Okamoto had gone home.

I know this is late, but don't immediately assume someone's only interested in her body!
If you're a guy (or maybe a woman too?), and a band member you like is attractive,
then watching her sing or play on a concert DVD is naturally going to make you feel some attraction.
That's even more true for beautiful people like Yurippe and Nana-san (AZUKI Nana, the lyricist), isn't it?
Don't just decide that someone only cares about her body!
...That said, the “Spiral” at the end of the first DVD is so good...
Every time Yurippe jumps, you can catch a glimpse of her pale, mochi-like stomach...
I've used that little flash of her belly as material for getting off so many times...

Nana-san's comments mention Hitoshi Okamoto an unusually large number of times, and later she says she went on dates and lived with a band member.

The TV-size version of “timeless sleep” is pretty good.
I don't know if it's the older guy or some other GIZA staff member editing GARNET's TV versions,
but they often cut corners, so it's rare for the TV-size version alone to sound good.
“Wasurezaki” fades out halfway through the song,
and sometimes they start in the middle, like with “Call My Name.”
Though maybe that's because the original chorus is unusually long.

I've never watched anything that made me think, “Don't let it end... don't let it end...” the whole time!

I noticed it too,

I've always thought “Maboroshi” is surprisingly hard to sing.
Maybe it depends on the singer.
Perhaps the chords are difficult to catch...
While singing it, you start to feel unsure whether you're actually on pitch.
I don't know what Yurippe can hear on stage,
but she probably can't hear very clearly,
so I guess it really is difficult.

During Mr. Hitoshi's segment, he received a very anxious message:
“Looking at the contents of Ms. Miho Komatsu's new best-of album,
it feels like she's about to retire...
Please tell me if everything is okay.”
Okamoto first said, “The email uses that trendy kind of text...
It's really hard to read...”
Then he replied, “People often say this when a best-of album comes out.
They've said it about GARNET too.
Don't decide that for us on your own~ and so on.
We're on the same label, so don't worry.
She's still working on new material.”

Shibasaki — oldest daughter
Sugimoto — younger son
Waku — youngest child
490
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2007/01/11 14:07 | ID:ztl1DjQZO
Continuing:
Furui, the oldest son, is the leader who holds everyone together. He listens to Nakamura, Okamoto, and Nana, and is a kind big brother to everyone.
Nana, the oldest daughter, is artistic, doesn't care about worldly things, and is a beautiful, slightly odd big sister.
Nakamura, the younger daughter, is the girl who asserts her own will, lays the foundation for their work, and calls herself a songstress.
As for Okamoto, the youngest, he wanted to play drums but wasn't allowed, so he worked hard at guitar instead. The other three tease him and dote on him.
Something like that.

The last two songs on the fifth album are great. “Haru Matsu...” is a classic, probably something women would like. “WEEKEND,” on the other hand, is a man's song. It reminds me of a woman I dumped a long time ago.
I think GARNET CROW's beauty lies in how both the music and lyrics express the sadness of things gradually fading away.
People who like love stories that never end happily, and who appreciate the beauty of destruction, would probably like them.
But there are also a few songs about happiness, and I like those too.

>Yurippe's “ah~ah~” backing vocals, which weren't in the TV size, are great!
>Recent singles haven't had many memorable harmonies, so this feels fresh.

If the quality of music is judged by its cover, doesn't that mean society today doesn't see music as art? Most people don't understand music theory, so I doubt many of them listen closely. Like novels, movies, or manga, they just consume it.
But even in this kind of world, I don't think Garnet Crow cares that much about “as long as it sells.” Sure, they want their songs to reach more people, but they don't want to compromise the creative spirit that's uniquely theirs—in other words, their artistic side.
Didn't they write at the end of the photobook that they didn't want to keep going out of inertia? Before criticizing the cover, I want you to think about their music.
Whether it's music, novels, or anything else, I don't think people who choose based only on the cover are worth talking to.
775
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2007/01/17 19:39 | ID:j8k1Qh/B0
Then why not stop taking cover photos altogether? Just sell it with the song and artist names written on a blank sheet of paper.

Maybe they never thought of expressing anything through the covers.
Or maybe the agency restricts them because it wants to sell them based on their looks.
Even so, I wish they'd stop with those brainless, one-note cover photos where they just line up the members.

名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2007/01/17 20:16 | ID:tCum0QEl0

>>774
I don't think covers are especially important, but it's fun to see a CD by a band you barely know—or have never heard of—in a record shop, guess what they'll sound like from the cover, and buy it on a whim.
These days, you can find out all kinds of things online before going to a record store, so I don't really do that anymore.

793
名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。 | 2007/01/17 22:45 | ID:X1EH7HakO
I think of looking at a cover as being pretty much like watching a music video.
Some people even see all of it together as one complete work.
Take Spitz, for example. One of the members studied at an art university, and they put a lot of thought into every cover. They even seek out artists they like and commission them. Rather than simply reflecting the song's world, the cover can expand that world even further.
I've gotten used to Gane's covers, but this one still looks like the kind of cover where an ordinary person would just say, “Oh, that otaku band,” and move on.

You can hear parts of the choruses of “Kaze-niji” and “Kono Te” in the Entertainment News section.
I don't think “Kono Te” has changed much, but “Kaze-niji” sounds a lot cooler. I was surprised.

It's fine for Wiki to include details, but making an ordinary word like “Jesus” sound like some rare, special term is embarrassing.
If anything, they should talk about “Nogareno Machi” instead.

Personally, I'm not especially fond of otaku. And even if people say a lot of their listeners are otaku, GARNET CROW is still GARNET CROW. No matter how well they sell, I think the songs themselves are good.
Maybe we should separate them from the otaku label and think of them simply as GARNET CROW—as a band?
The company's policies and tie-in anime might influence their music in some way, but I think it's sad to lower their value in your own mind just because otaku listen to them. If you do that, you miss the true essence of the music.
Ultimately, as fans, I think we should view them more positively and give them more credit. At least, that's what I would do.

After watching their 2004 live DVD, I thought they were god-tier. But lately I haven't been able to listen to recent Gane because the vocals seem to have deteriorated.
Then I watched “Twilight” on YouTube, and they were cool after all, so now I want to buy it. Mochi was cool in “Yume-Hanabi.”

Ayumi Hamasaki's public image was crafted to portray her as someone with childhood trauma from being abandoned by her father, whose background shaped her sensitivity and songwriting ability.
In reality, she had a team of strategists. Using marketing research, they collected phrases from various sources in advance, put them into a database, and assembled suitable ones—a highly formulaic production process. That approach later made her a target of criticism over alleged lyric plagiarism.
The gap between the image Hamasaki's team wanted otaku to have of her and the reality is enormous.

I think “Holy ground” gets old quickly because the chorus sort of drifts along.
A friend who's a Gane fan sang it once, but everyone seemed bored.
I sang “Marionette” myself and the room went dead quiet—it surprised me.
The ones that got a good response were “Raika-ya,” “A crown,” and “only stay.”
