GARNET CROW’s seventh anniversary of their debut is in three days. Congratulations!

The arrangement of “Ameagari no Blue” sounds a lot like Masao Akashi’s work.

AZUKI Nana (AZUKI 七, lyricist) She handles keyboards and lyrics for GARNET CROW. She’s an avid reader. Even vocalist Yuri Nakamura says, “She’d forget her stage outfit before she’d forget her paperback.” She’s quiet and reserved, in contrast with the outgoing Nakamura, who is known for bringing energy to the group. Nakamura once said that many younger artists and staff at their agency would first approach the warm-seeming Nana, but when they realized she hardly spoke, they would turn to the more outgoing Nakamura instead. Even when Nana is out walking, people rarely notice her. She says, “I hate being recognized, so I make myself blend in.” She does get recognized once in a while, but seems unhappy when people call out, “It’s Yurippe!” She has an average tolerance for alcohol. When she gets drunk, she becomes cute and asks things like, “Yurippe, are you staying here with me all day today?” She never sleeps on airplanes. As she puts it, she flies with the mindset of being the “third pilot.” She has been in the music business for a long time, but has never said anything about it herself.

It looks like the theme song for the TV drama “Sexy Voice and Robo” is confirmed. The song itself has been decided, but apparently the title isn’t final yet. For now, it’s tentatively called “Sora Takaku Umi Fukaku,” though that will probably change. It’s scheduled for release in June, by the way.

I don’t think GARNET’s live shows are about reproducing the vocals from the CDs; they perform live arrangements of the songs. They’re genuinely great when you hear them in person.

Of course it’s normal for a live performance to differ from the recording, but if the gap is too big, that’s a serious problem. If it’s that bad, even songs that moved me on the recording become really boring. “Mizu no Nai…” was as monotonous as it gets. I hope Yurippe first gets her pitch under control, then adds some dynamics to the songs and works on projecting more.
