I listened to some of the artists GARNET's members like on YouTube, and surprisingly, a lot of them were pretty poppy and easy to get into. Jesus Jones, Cloudberry Jam, Jellyfish, and Kula Shaker especially clicked with me, but I could only find a Kula Shaker CD to rent... OTL

They don't sound like GARNET. Their vocals are lower than The Cardigans', and the songs have a lower center of gravity, too.

In the previous thread someone mentioned Hitoshi Okamoto's guitar skills. How would you describe the band's playing ability overall? People say Hirohito Furui has “god hands,” like Jimmy Smith and so on. I feel like that kind of technical musician would lean toward the *Jazz Life* scene. Is that just industry people hyping each other up? If possible, I'd like to see Furui like that, too.

Yurippe becoming the lead vocalist happened kind of by circumstance, in a way, and Nana starting to play keyboard was probably similar, right? She said she'd studied piano, but she'd also studied other things, so piano wasn't her top priority.

Thinking about it again, the old guy really is amazing. But I don't want him to leave the band on his own and say he's going to focus on production from now on...

I went yesterday, but the moment Yurippe came on, I couldn't see anything else for the rest of the show. For someone like me who loves both ZARD and GARNET CROW, it was an incredibly luxurious live event.

I bought a ticket for the Budokan without knowing Yurippe would appear, so I'm even more excited now. I'd be so bummed if she only appeared at the Osaka show.

Same here. They're completely different categories to begin with. The only thing they have in common is that they're both women.

Gane's songs have such a beautiful, ethereal world to them, so I deliberately tried picturing aiko, with her down-to-earth, cute vibe, in that world, lol. Yurippe gives off absolutely no impression of men in her life, or of everyday life at all.

Popular artists these days are exactly the opposite of that. GIZA, with its tight control, could never pull it off.

aiko has a really distinctive way of singing. It has a real American rock feel! I watched DVDs by GIZA artists, but do the lyrics get reused over and over? Does Nana-san really write them herself? Rina-chan said something like, “I try hard to memorize the lyrics before a concert, but I still forget them sometimes.” But if you wrote the lyrics yourself, why do you have to memorize them? The DVD credits said WORD ALL Aiuchi.

I went to the Osaka show, but Yurippe was in a kind of unfortunate position. If you're right in the center like that, anyone would look like a mannequin, not just Yurippe. I think a spot next to Mochi (Hitoshi Okamoto—“Mochi” and “Okamochi” are his nicknames, unrelated to AZUKI Nana) would've been good.

Until Tokunaga and Hayama came out at the end, she was all alone, front and center. It would've been nice if someone like Ohno could at least have stood next to her. There were three people on the electric-guitar side: Ohga, Mochi, and another guy next to Mochi. Ohga and the other guy both got spotlights and solos, so they really stood out (especially Ohga—he was way too conspicuous, lol). Poor Mochi was off to the side the whole time with no big moment. The guitarist next to him was tall and handsome, which made Mochi look chubby, lol.

Thanks for the report〜 Reading it makes me even more eager to see the MUGEN feature. For now, I'm looking forward to *Zoom In!! Saturday* tomorrow.

Their popular songs have always leaned mainstream. “Yume Mita Ato de” was mainstream J-pop, too. The quality has just gone down.

Saying the fifth album has a lot of throwaway songs is just your personal opinion. Compared with their earlier songs, they may have a little less individuality and things like that, but even so, I don't think the quality has declined.

The songs that are popular with hardcore fans aren't the kind that everyone can get into. That's what I think, anyway. Though “Houseki-gyo” and “Crier” are probably pretty conventional songs, too.

I think Okamocchi is a god. This happened about six months ago, during the New Year's holiday, when I went with my parents to the Okamoto family restaurant (a Japanese-style izakaya) in Kobe. The three of us were eating dotenabe when Okamocchi suddenly walked in through the entrance, dressed in heavy metal clothes that didn't fit the izakaya at all. He said, “The usual for me,” and was heading upstairs when the group of fans who always stand near the front at Pankoujou started shouting, “Mr. Okamoto!” and “Okamocchi, you're so cool!” So Okamocchi turned back, and it instantly turned into an impromptu autograph session. All four or five hundred customers in the restaurant got him to sign the colored paper from the shop. Then Okamocchi said, “See you later,” went upstairs, and the restaurant quieted down again. My parents and I were thrilled by how approachable and cool Okamocchi was. After we finished eating, we went to the register to pay, and AZUKI Nana (the lyricist) appeared. Pointing up the stairs, she said: “Oh my, making such a big deal out of a guitarist like that... Come back to this restaurant tomorrow, and I'll show you Yuri Nakamura, who's way better than that completely unflashy guitarist.” I threw the autograph away immediately.

At Gane lives, fans often shout things at moments that completely disregard Yurippe. Some idiot said “And the second floor, too!” or something right after Yurippe finished saying, “Thank you all so much for coming today〜” at the end of a live. Ever since then, at the end of every show she's had to say something like, “Thanks to everyone on the second floor, too.”

When Yurippe is halfway through talking, someone yells “Nana-saaan!”... (and it's always the same voice). That must annoy Nana, too—

How can you even say an arrangement is high- or low-level?

Honestly, I only judge the vocals. Whatever kind of songs you write in this era, they'll sound like songs from the past. Anything is fine as long as it's a minor-key song that suits that voice best. The lyrics may be original, but I can't really tell whether there's any talent there. (Like repeating “suteki” at the end of “Ichiban Suteki Datta Hi”—I thought that was a little weird.) The arrangements are fine as they are. I hate overproduction most of all.

Aside from the singing, only Azuki's playing is bad. (Kamei, who appeared at the event, was pretty bad, too.) If someone says the other performances are bad as well, there's nothing more to say to that person. If you call Hiromichi Aoi's arrangements low-level, then most mainstream singers who use dedicated arrangers would be in trouble. People like Utada are genuinely great at arrangements that suit their songs, with things like orchestra hits, breakbeats, and key changes. Of course, if you widen the comparison to bands, there are plenty of people who are even better.

Who's better at piano, Yurippe or AZUKI? I heard Yurippe grew up learning electronic organ.

Azuki's bad playing has a lot to do with how she keeps looking straight ahead and doesn't concentrate.
