I've been a fan for six years, but rather than judging whether the songs are good or bad, I'm just starting to get bored... A *Conan* tie-in and a Gane-style mid-tempo ballad. It makes me feel like Gane's range is narrow, both in melodies and arrangements. Compared to “Namida no Yesterday,” the lyrics on their own have a nice, floating quality, but they don't make the need for a tie-in clear at all. Anime or not, a tie-in is supposed to contribute something to the work, so I wish they'd capture the story's world like they did with “Wasurezaki.” But in the end, TV tie-ins are just about making money. I'm coming from Kanto for the live show, but I feel like I'll cool off really quickly once it's over.

I think the tie-in issue is GIZA's responsibility.

I listened to the new song on Nico Nico, and it was better than when I heard it yesterday. So it grows on you after all?

This band only makes songs that kids would listen to. The rhythm is kind of childish, too—most of them sound like typical anime songs. Though you lot would gratefully listen to anything they put out, lol. Your ears must be used to such thin, shallow music. Hahahaha. Apparently they have way more male fans than female fans... I bet they're all just after their bodies... And their fans are all blind, constantly yelling “Masterpiece! Masterpiece!”...

I'm a middle-schooler and a one-year-old Gane fan, a total newbie, but I like seeing people like >>32. I'm starting from scratch, so there's no way I could feel like the band's getting stale. There are countless ways I could go. For example, I could become an obsessive first-album loyalist, or just keep following every new song. Someday, I'm sure I'll become like >>32. When that day comes, it comes! I'll listen with a grown-up's composure! For now, I'm just savoring how fresh every song sounds!

I listened to the full new song. It does have some belted singing like “Kono Te wo Nobaseba.” But it has a good ebb and flow, the transition into the chorus is well done, and the intro and outro are soothing and easy to listen to. The D section catches you a little off guard, then it builds steadily into the final chorus. Overall, I thought it was a good song. Sorry if that was hard to follow.

Copied from Mixi I live near the venue. It's pretty far out in the mountains, so buses stop running early and don't come often. The road from Ninnaji toward Hanazono Station slopes gently downhill the whole way, so as long as you head south, you can just walk downhill and you'll reach Hanazono Station. If you're going to Kyoto Station, it's a 15-minute train ride from JR Hanazono Station. Trains come every 15 to 20 minutes. The Keifuku trains that run by Omuro-Ninnaji are usually single-car, one-person-operated trains. They have two cars at most, so I expect they'll be really crowded after the live show. After 8 p.m., they run every 20 minutes. If you take the Keifuku line from Omuro-Ninnaji to Kitano-Hakubaicho, there are city buses toward Kyoto Station and Kawaramachi until around 11 p.m. If you're going to Shijo-Kawaramachi, you can take the Keifuku line from Omuro-Ninnaji in the opposite direction, toward Arashiyama, go via Katabiranotsuji to Shijo-Omiya, then transfer to the Hankyu line to reach Shijo-Kawaramachi. Since that whole route is by train, I think there should be fewer delays. If you go west from Hanazono Station along Marutamachi Street, north of the station, you'll come to a traffic light with a pedestrian bridge and a blue sign for “Kanbe Eye Clinic.” Follow the road north from that light and you'll reach Ninnaji. It's almost a straight road, so it should be easy to follow. No need to worry about rain. Rehearsal is underway. The entrance is the East Gate. The South Gate is closed. People without tickets can listen from the north side of Ninnaji. The speakers face north.

Rehearsal is over. There are only three buses after 9 p.m.—basically none— so I think the best option is to exit through the South Gate, walk 150 meters south, and take the Keifuku train (¥200) to either Kitano-Hakubaicho or Shijo-Omiya. From there, take a bus or a taxi.

It's windy and looks cold. Don't catch a cold.

Doors opened at 5:50 p.m. The flyer included a glow stick, with a note saying to use it during “Holy Ground.” There's a huge monitor on the left, so the stage seems surprisingly cramped.

There are 68 rows, with up to 35 seats across. There's a rail camera up front, one camera in the back, one at the front right, and a crane camera, too. Looks like they're mainly for the monitors rather than recording, though.

Yurippe wore a brown patterned dress with a fluffy black wrap over her shoulders. When she spread her arms, you could see her neckline. Nana-san wore a low-cut dress. Ossan had on a white jacket and joked himself, “I look like Chara Chitcha Chara Chaa,” or something like that. The backing musicians were Daisuke Ikeda's string section, Pon-san, Ōga-san, Ōhashi-san, and Kamei-san.

I mean, they sang... Yurippe had put on some weight, lol. She messed up the lyrics a lot because of that, but her voice came through pretty well, I guess. Also: Audience: “Yurippe, you look cold~” Yurippe: “I'm cold~” She gave a totally serious answer, lol. When Nana-san was asked something by Yurippe, she said “I'm cold...” without a microphone, lol. Ossan and Mochi were energetic, though.

For the “Sky Blue” sing-along, Yurippe split the audience into Nana's team on her left and Furui-san's team on her right, then had each side practice the chorus separately. When it was time to perform, Yurippe stopped singing and everyone in the audience sang together! The main gate and the half moon in the clear night sky made a perfect backdrop.

Yuri's way too skinny, she should put on a little weight, lol.

The staging was good, but the setlist was kind of disappointing. I was especially sad they didn't play “Yofuke...”

There were torch-like lights and pampas grass decorations onstage. They used lots of smoke and lasers, and the dreamy outdoor atmosphere was great. The audience was well-behaved, too; there were practically no people jumping around in the front, I think. There were lots of cheers and calls, though.

She was definitely a bit heavier. Her middle and high notes came out really well, though. Her falsetto seemed pretty weak. It was a show that made me laugh a few times, but the funniest moment was right at the beginning: “Okamocchii!” Overall, it was okay. It was cold, and the setlist felt a little short. The MC was long, though.

First of all, it was cold. The seats were set up along the approach to the temple (I guess that's what you'd call it), so it was much longer than a hall. With about 68 rows and 40 seats across, I guess there were a little over 2,000 people.

Would you say it was more of a “have fun” live show than one where they “let the music speak”? That kind of goofing around doesn't really seem like them, but I think it's nice once in a while.

So it wasn't really a “let the music speak” kind of show after all... I thought a show at a temple would probably be more subdued and focused on the music, lol. I figured they'd play something like “Yuzukiyo.”

Today was my first Gane live show, but I realized I absolutely have to go again next time. The four of them playing by themselves, the audience singing along, and above all, Yurippe talking so much—it all made the show feel really fun. I was toward the back, so it was pretty hard to see the monitor, lol. I was especially glad they played “cried a little.” It was worth traveling all that way. Now I just hope they release the DVD uncut...

Am I the only one who gets butterflies listening to Yurippe and Mochi harmonize? I was getting butterflies the whole time during “SKY.”

It seemed like sand had gotten into Yurippe's throat. Her voice caught a few times, and she wiped her throat with a towel. I thought that must be bad for her throat...

The strings version of “Mizu no Nai Hareta Umi e” was incredible... The part where it gets more intense in the final chorus was even better than usual, lol.

I loved how they used strings on almost every song. It felt like they used live instruments for sounds that benefit from being live, and Furui's synth for the programmed sounds. It was my favorite band setup so far. “Marionette” and “call my name” sounded closer to the CD versions than ever before. On the other hand, I felt like we lost some of the appeal of live drums that we'd had on songs like “Sorairo no Neko” and “Yasashii Ame” at last year's *Livescope*. I guess people will have different preferences on that. Also, didn't they cut short the performance of “Kakurenbo”? The playing felt a little rough overall, maybe because they hadn't rehearsed much. Maybe it was because it was outdoors. At Gane shows, I always felt some distance between the members and the audience, but the staging kept things engaging and made the venue feel united. That made me happiest.

Daisuke Ikeda, the conductor, had the most energy, lol.

Wow, this new song is kind of underwhelming. The singing from the second verse onward sounds really strained. When I heard it on *Detective Conan*, I thought the arrangement would be much simpler... It overlaps with “Kono Te wo Nobashitara.”

Yeah, there are some similar elements, but the lyrics have a different emotional intensity, so it feels like a different song to me~. Yurippe does sound like she's pushing herself too hard, though... Maybe it's a mastering issue? I'd kind of like them to make a more understated version too. Anyway, I'll decide after some time has passed. I feel like I'll want to listen again after a while—or rather, the lyrics make me want to cry.

It's simply a matter of how she sings it. The melody is boring, so she tries to add character through her singing, but she overdoes it and it backfires—making the song sound even more meager. That's the formula for a lot of mediocre songs lately.

Maybe a lighter voice just can't project enough? Gane songs have a lot of low notes that are especially hard for women to project.

I only listened casually at first, but somehow the lyrics stayed with me. The subtle expressions make the laid-back songs even better. That beauty—you can't even tell how old she is anymore. God was right there. This is hard, lol.

Songwriters and composers receive royalties. That's one reason bands often develop discord among their members and end up breaking up.

I hate it when talk about sales and money comes up, because then people lump us in with those chart-obsessed Being fans over there.

I don't know how GIZA splits things, but supposedly copyright royalties are 6% of each CD's price, shared among the record company, composer, lyricist, and arranger. So, if that's 60 yen split four ways, that's 15 yen each? But even with artists on Ayumi Hamasaki's level, the split apparently tends to be 50% for the record company and the rest divided among three people. Would that mean 10 yen each? At 50,000 copies, that'd only bring in 500,000 yen each. Downloads and secondary-use royalties might add something, but unless you're an idol-level act, you probably can't count on much. Is Mochi left out of all this?

I don't know what kind of revenue-sharing system GIZA uses, but I suspect they're GIZA employees. They all seem to have graduated from top universities, and maybe this is a project band assembled through company assignments: Furui-san as an in-house producer, Nana-san who used to be an assistant director, Yurippe as a new employee, and Mochi. Maybe they normally work as office ladies and company employees in their respective departments. That would explain how the band has kept going for years despite only doing live shows occasionally, and why they won't disband unless the company orders it. Maybe their reward for sales comes back as bonuses rather than royalties?

Nakamura Azuki was hired with the expectation that she'd appear in public, regardless of her own wishes. Furui was hired as a songwriter after auditions and demos. Okamoto could play guitar and write songs reasonably well, and his academic credentials were the deciding factor in keeping him around. To Being, Okamoto is a lovable employee: highly educated, yet hardworking and never complains. That's why he's entrusted with radio shows and got to make a solo debut. I've also heard that one of the producers likes him.

I wasn't there, so I don't know, but maybe they played a prerecorded track with live instruments on top? Well, if she was moving her mouth and pretending to sing, that's what you'd call lip-syncing.

If you watch music shows like *Music Station*, you can tell which part has vocal delay and distortion added. They just play that part back.

GARNET CROW's live shows are low quality. Nakamura Yuri says “I hope you enjoy yourselves,” but I've never actually enjoyed one of their shows... I want them to improve their performance.

The music video seems to capture the lyrics' indescribable, detached sense of emptiness. It's elaborate, but somehow doesn't look elaborate. Maybe it's a reaction to going overboard with “Namida no Yesterday.”

I'm not mentally ill, but when I was feeling hopeless and empty, I discovered GARNET CROW and was amazed by Nana-san's lyrics. I thought, “Wow, someone who understands emptiness this deeply is still living so firmly... then I guess it's okay for me to keep living too.” It cheered me up, lol. Apparently, listening to darker songs can be calming when you're feeling low. Forcing yourself to listen to upbeat songs can make the contrast feel painful. Isn't “Eien ni Hōmure” actually a positive song? Like, “Let me bury it, and then I have to move on...”

Both the music and lyrics of *sky* are way too dark, and Yurippe's voice is scary too. But the falsetto on the final “sky~” feels so good and soothing. Still, just seeing Yurippe gives me a boost, no matter what, lol.

Are there any music videos worse than “Mou Chotto Sagashite Mimasu”?

Sorry for the late reply. The first and second albums are pretty evenly matched, but the first wins by a little. I don't think the second album is sequenced that well, with “Yume Mita Ato de” as the opening track. I would've preferred “call my name” as the first track. The first album's opener has a much stronger impact! So I'd recommend the first one.

I've been buying tons of GARNET CROW CDs and DVDs, lol. I'm totally hooked. All the songs are so good. And Yuri-chan is unbelievably cute, lol.
