Hello, everyone!! This is Hiroto Furui of GARNET CROW. I was given this opportunity and thought about what to choose, and then three things suddenly came to mind. I have some behind-the-scenes stories prepared as well, so please read on for now!!

♥　*moog* (documentary film)

First of all, there is a documentary film called *moog*.
This film follows the life of Dr. Robert Moog, who created the Moog synthesizer, as well as the development of the synthesizer. I will save the more technical details for another occasion...... By the time I became interested in it, the Moog was already one of those dream instruments that many musicians used and that people longed to own and try at least once. I still have one that I use carefully. Since it cannot play multiple keys at the same time and can produce only one note, I use it for bass, leads, sound effects, and so on, but it appears in many GARNET CROW songs, so see if you can find it!! These days, there are also software instruments that simulate it inside a computer, but I use the Moog as a sound that can only be produced by this instrument, while sensing Dr. Moog's dedication in every note. Here is a related behind-the-scenes story...... It goes back to when I took part in a ZARD live show that was later released on DVD. After the rehearsal before the Yokohama performance, just as I was about to return to the dressing room, a visitor came to my booth...... Yes, it was GARNET CROW's charismatic guitarist, Hitoshi Okamoto. As usual, he began touching my equipment with curiosity, and the moment he touched the mini Moog!! the sound would not stop...... A spare had to be prepared, and it was adjusted just in time for the performance. It was quite an accident (laughs). You see, it was basically as if he had drawn the unlucky lot by chance, but vintage instruments can be that sensitive when it comes to tuning and handling. Anyway, this is a film about Dr. Moog, the inventor of the historic masterpiece mini Moog!

PROFILE: He was already active at the forefront as an arranger before GARNET CROW was formed, and has earned tremendous trust from numerous artists, including ZARD, DEEN, and Miho Komatsu. His flexible sensibility, which continually seeks out new styles, gives GARNET CROW's music a deep brilliance.

★ In addition to *moog*, we asked Mr. Furui to introduce two other works, but they were so interesting that we will introduce the remaining two next time. Look forward to it!

As we mentioned in last month's issue (Vol.140), this month's “LOVE×3 journal” brings you a two-part review by Hiroto Furui of GARNET CROW! This second installment introduces the CD *Computer World*, which is connected in some ways to the DVD *moog* featured last time, as well as *Touch of David Foster*!

♥　*Computer World* / Kraftwerk

The next work I would like to introduce is also connected to what I was talking about earlier: the first imported album I ever bought! It is *Computer World*, an album by the group Kraftwerk. They are one of the groups in the history of techno-pop, alongside YMO, that cannot be skipped over, creating sounds with numerous synthesizers such as the Moog!! Many people may not imagine this from GARNET CROW's sound, but as a synth kid I also went down the path I had to take. Once I became interested in synthesizers, I researched all kinds of things, wondering, “How did they make this?” and “How did they produce this voice?” In the '80s, many kinds of equipment that had never existed before appeared, and although they were expensive and difficult to obtain, it was a fascinating decade. Against that background, it would be fair to say that the decade's pop melodies gave rise to innovative arrangements.

♥♥　*Touch of David Foster* / David Foster

Finally, *Touch of David Foster*. I chose a best-of collection to make things easy to understand. David Foster was one of the people who taught me the appeal of the piano. At the time, he was also the person who taught me what producing meant. This one album is packed with the history of David Foster, who left behind countless classic songs and guided countless artists to hits!! Carrying that feeling with me today, I help create the sounds of various artists. I could only introduce a small part of them this time, but I hope I can tell you about more good works on another occasion. I feel that if you learn about this kind of history and listen to GARNET CROW, you may enjoy it even more. Thank you for staying with me until the end.
