●How did you feel after finishing “GARNET CROW livescope 2008 ～Are you ready to lock on !?～”?
“It was a lot of fun. This time, the live included many first-time attempts, such as dancing and singing together with everyone, so I went onstage feeling half excited and half anxious about what kind of live it would become. Once it began, everyone really enjoyed taking part, and I remember feeling relieved. Everyone’s smiles also left a strong impression on me, and it was the live where I laughed the most.”

●Your new single “百年の孤独” was written as the theme song for the film [真救世主伝説 北斗の拳ZERO ケンシロウ伝]. What did you imagine while writing it?
“I expanded the image from the words ‘love, birth, awakening, and enlightenment,’ which we were given as keywords, while aiming for something grand and dramatic. We made four or five songs and ultimately chose this one.”

●Was there anything you paid particular attention to in order to preserve the song’s world?
“I focused on how to make it as dramatic as possible right to the end. We also decided rather suddenly, near the end of production, to have the final chorus shift into double time. We made a version with one more chorus as well, and kept developing the song so that it would have a structure you would not grow tired of listening to from beginning to end.”

●Is there a part of AZUKI’s lyrics that you especially like?
“The phrase ‘Beyond the distant town, the sun sets / and the stars of evening begin to appear’ lets you slip straight into the world of this song. It is very romantic, and I love it.”

●Have you ever felt “lonely”? When was that?
“At the Osaka live, we announced the title of this song and got everyone looking forward to hearing it. But because we announced it with a drum roll, the venue fell completely silent for a moment afterward. The atmosphere seemed to say, ‘You’re not going to sing the song?!’ and it was painful. I was lonely (laughs).”

●How did you feel after finishing “GARNET CROW livescope 2008 ～Are you ready to lock on !?～”?
“The hall in Tokyo felt like a stage at the bottom of a tube, with seats rising high above it. It was quite striking.”

●Your new single “百年の孤独” was written as the theme song for the film [真救世主伝説 北斗の拳ZERO ケンシロウ伝]. What did you imagine when writing the lyrics?
“I was thinking about scenes such as Kenshiro and Shin appearing in the great whirlpool of history.”

●What impression did you have when you heard Nakamura’s song?
“Hmm. Grand.”

●Have you ever felt “lonely”? When was that?
“All the time, I guess.”

●How did you feel after finishing “GARNET CROW livescope 2008 ～Are you ready to lock on !?～”?
“We prepared for this live while taking into account the points we had reflected on in the past. It is a very basic idea, but our goal was for ‘everyone in the venue, the members, and the entire staff to become one.’ We tried various things and hoped that feeling would reach everyone. Supported by support musicians who were even more fired up than in the summer, I personally enjoyed myself to the fullest!!”

●Your new single “百年の孤独” was written as the theme song for the film [真救世主伝説 北斗の拳ZERO ケンシロウ伝]. Was there anything you focused on in arranging it?
“This song contains several approaches that GARNET CROW has never used before!! I think you may be able to feel that just by listening to the intro, but with a ‘grand image’ as the theme, I worked carefully on everything from the intro until the last sound of the ending disappears. Please give it a listen at least once (laughs).”

●What impression did you have when you heard Nakamura’s song?
“I could feel its world from the melody at the start of the vocal, and it made me imagine the arrangement.”

●Is there a part of AZUKI’s lyrics that you especially like?
“Personally, the phrase ‘In the desire not to lose someone dear / love turns into greed / and wanders in distortion’ stayed with me!! The reason is that I felt I could somehow understand it……”

●Have you ever felt “lonely”? When was that?
“I have never felt it that seriously!!”

●How did you feel after finishing “GARNET CROW livescope 2008 ～Are you ready to lock on !?～”?
“It was a short tour, but I think we were able to put on substantial lives everywhere.”

●Your new single “百年の孤独” was written as the theme song for the film [真救世主伝説 北斗の拳ZERO ケンシロウ伝]. Did you have any particular image in mind while performing it?
“Something powerful, I suppose. I imagined striking vital points with as few notes as possible……”

●What impression did you have when you heard Nakamura’s song?
“The earth. It has a solid sense of landing. The A section in particular is cool.”

●Is there a part of AZUKI’s lyrics that you especially like?
“All of it, really. When I first heard the title, it knocked me sideways.”

●Have you ever felt “lonely”? When was that?
“I have not often thought of myself as lonely. Maybe I have actually been lonely all along.”
