The new fiscal year has begun, Golden Week is over,
and perhaps things are starting to settle down a little.
On their days off, many of you may have spent time outside
traveling, shopping, or attending various events.
Did you make lots of happy memories?
Last month, I, Yurippe, went to see a wisteria trellis.
I have liked pale purple wisteria flowers for a long time
and had always wanted to see one, so I was happy to finally do it!
The clusters hung down, so full of flowers that they looked ready to spill over from above,
like a purple curtain—beautiful!
They sparkled in the light and swayed in the breeze.
It was truly an elegant sight.
The purple gradient continued as far as I could see,
and the sweet fragrance filled the entire area.
It was so beautiful.
Cherry blossoms are wonderful too, but wisteria is well worth seeing.
Apparently, the language of wisteria flowers is “I welcome you” and “intoxicating love.”
I, too, spent the whole day intoxicated by the charm of wisteria.

When a mosquito comes at you, do you swat it sharply and make sure to kill it?
Or do you use chemicals such as Vape or Kincho-ru to keep the space around you peaceful?
Or do you gently brush it away, accepting that you may occasionally get bitten, and coexist with it?
Maybe you do not care at all and simply let it bite you?

Apparently, these days you can play a sound from your PC that keeps mosquitoes away and protect yourself from bites. Is that true?
I dislike the feeling of chemicals filling the room, so I once tried insect-repellent herbs,
but discovered that the classic lemongrass scent gives me a headache.
I get taken out before the insects do.
I put out a few insectivorous plants too, but they did not seem particularly eager to eat.
In the middle of the night, I would literally rub my sleepy eyes, turn on the light, expose my arms and legs,
and wait, saying, “Come on, try it again!” before doing battle.
It feels like a sure method, but I would end up getting bitten again anyway,
and the fatigue seemed to outweigh the itch...
Apparently mosquitoes first inject a liquid that causes itching,
so once I have been bitten, part of me wants to let it drink its fill.
Even after drinking its fill, though, it gets hungry again in three or four hours...

An elderly woman in my neighborhood told me she sprays Kincho-ru on her body in the morning,
but I thought, “No, you mustn't!”
She also told me that rubbing shiso leaves on a bite would stop the itching,
but it did not work very well...
I tried putting cellophane tape over the bite, thinking I should stop it from breathing through the skin, but that did not work either.
What is this business about making a cross with your fingernail? What is that supposed to do?
I tried cooling it with an ice pack, but then it was simply cold.
I applied Muhi straight away, only to get a rash from the medicine.
Oh, what about taking aspirin? Would that dull the painful itch?
People say mosquitoes will not bite you if you keep moving, but I was attacked even while out walking.
I wonder if the best countermeasures differ from one region to another.

Lately I have given up.
“Let it eat as much as it wants and be satisfied. Let it enjoy its short life,” I think, with a feeling of almost not caring anymore.
All I can do is try to keep mosquitoes out of the room as much as possible.
So these days I almost always have a bite somewhere. I hate it. It really is itchy.
It is tough that their active season seems to be getting longer every year.
If anyone lives in an area with no mosquitoes, please let me know.
