The new year arrived in the blink of an eye. It is late, but Happy New Year, everyone. I am Hitoshi Okamoto of GARNET CROW, back again with some more disconnected thoughts.

Well, even though it is a new year, the unstable political situation and sluggish economy remain the same. Starting with current affairs makes me sound like an old man? Sorry. Why did I begin this way? Because I am watching *Tokudane!* right now. Ogura is shouting energetically first thing in the morning again today. Excellent.

Anyway, let the passionate Hoshino figure out how to restore the economy. Please encourage everyone with all your might and save the Hanshin Tigers. There is also the World Cup this year, which I am looking forward to.

Leaving that aside, a friend I have known since high school got married recently, and I went to the wedding. It was the first wedding I had attended for someone outside my family, and I was naturally moved.

At the same time, I felt that I was approaching the age when people would call me “uncle.” I think my attitude is still young, but staying up all night has become quite difficult, and I talk back to the television more often than before. Perhaps noticing these things in the first place means I have already become an uncle.

To make matters worse, I do not look old on the outside. My inner and outer selves are out of step.

So this has indeed become the disconnected talk I promised at the beginning. This year too I will keep working toward making good work, so please forgive me. Thank you for reading to the end.

How is everyone?

From the beginning of this year through the end of February, I arranged Mai Kuraki’s concerts and often traveled around the country with the tour. I also began trying to build a mobile music-production system using a laptop, software instruments, and so on. As I write this, the tour is still under way, but by the time the article appears it will probably be over.

Since I am not working in a studio, there are inevitably various limitations and circumstances. But making arrangements in different hotel rooms is fresh and interesting...

As a result, the music I am making now is changing not only in method but also in sound. I am trying various things, including flavors from the 1960s and 1970s, while moving forward. At the same time as maintaining GARNET CROW’s original position, I am pursuing comfort and an originality held inside the sound. I feel the music has broadened further.

The new single “夢みたあとで,” including its coupling song, should let everyone feel what only GARNET CROW can express and the care we put into every aspect of sound production—singing, lyrics, arrangement, mixing, and more.

Not only GARNET CROW fans but also people interested in mobile music-production systems should give it a listen.
