GARNET CROW’s *word scope in M.F.M* (Vol.48)

GARNET CROW’s two-disc DVD commemorating their fifth anniversary has just been released.
This time AZUKI NANA talks about the project.

I finally bought the sun visor I had been eyeing for a while.
I do not really like shopping, so usually even when I think, “Maybe I should buy that,” I forget about it before I get around to going, and then decide I do not need it after all. This time, however, something I really needed broke, so I reluctantly headed toward the station. On the way I discovered a shop nearby selling sun visors.
It was shaped like something a person working at a smelting furnace might wear, but I was amazed when I put it on!
My view was clear and the colors were vivid. I wondered what all the effort had been for when I used to wrap a towel around my head, put on a ski face mask, and go out. I hate sunscreen, so I have to cover myself with long sleeves or a hat, but if there is a gap, you get a strange suntan.
Last year, the gap between my wetsuit and boots left a three-centimeter-wide ring of tan around both ankles.
This year I have already forgotten my gloves while snorkeling in a long-sleeved rash guard, so only my hands have turned brown, as though I were wearing brown gloves.

By the way, I came home feeling vaguely satisfied after buying the sun visor, but the thing I originally went out for—the thing that broke—was my CD deck. As of today, I still cannot listen to CDs at home.
I really will go to the station tomorrow.

GARNET CROW’s *word scope in M.F.M* (Vol.49)

GARNET CROW has decided to release their first best album, *GARNET CROW BEST*, on October 26. This time Hirohito Furui talks about arranging.

Thanks to the support of so many people, the DVD also achieved a good result.
I always want to put my heart into each individual project and make it with care.
That is true of both composition and arranging, but I feel that a key point is how closely we can approach the feelings of the people who watch and listen.
This may be too abstract, but it might be similar to the standard I use when I go shopping: deciding whether to enter a store, and whether it is a good store or a bad one... (laughs)
For example, when arranging, I think about how to capture the rhythm the melody is asking for and make it comfortable without taking away its appeal.
I consider how to carry the song from the intro into the vocals without making the listener want to skip to the next track; how the scenery and situation differ between the first and second verses; how the first chorus and final chorus serve different purposes; and whether the instrumental break is producing an effective result.
Those things may not necessarily be important points for every listener, but I feel they are indispensable to the quality of the song as a whole.
I want to keep learning every day as I aim to create music that people need in their lives, and songs and arrangements that make someone say, “This is my theme song.”
