GARNET CROW’s “word scope in M.F.M” (Vol.62)

On October 4, GARNET CROW released their first original album in about two years, 『THE TWILIGHT VALLEY』. Hirohito Furui talks about this release, which the members feel “turned out exactly the way we wanted”!

From July onward, we have released three singles and one album over four consecutive months, but above all I would like to talk a little about our fifth album, 『THE TWILIGHT VALLEY』.
The members feel that this album turned out exactly the way we wanted.

The reason!! It’s nothing as grand as that makes it sound, but we feel that we were able to take on new challenges while retaining the GARNET CROW feel.
That is actually quite difficult… (Laughs.)
It isn’t quite as dramatic as saying we reached a conclusion after struggling through a process of self-questioning, but we tried to break through genre boundaries in the sound and create a new worldview. There are interesting fusions that feel like traveling through different countries, while at the same time the feeling of GARNET CROW’s world is still there!! I hope everyone will be able to enjoy it properly!?

With live shows set for December, things are accelerating even further. I hope you will listen to the CD and come join us at the live shows too.

With a tour in Osaka and Tokyo confirmed for December, GARNET CROW continue their energetic activities.
This time, Yuri Nakamura answers questions from fans!

Hello, everyone. Have you been listening to our new album 『THE TWILIGHT VALLEY』? The album promotion (self-styled: the “Yurippe Festival”) has settled down for the moment, and I’m gradually shifting back into normal recording mode while reading through the letters and emails you have sent with your impressions. So this time, it’s a big question-and-answer session to celebrate the album’s release! I’ll answer your questions. Here we go!

Q. What is happening with your beloved slippers, which change with the season (nicknamed “Yurippa”)? （Mr. Toppirocky, Tokyo）
A. They are still the summer version of Yurippa, in the style of health sandals. I’m planning to change into fluffy Yurippa soon.

Q. I like “Hide-and-Seek” on the album, but was it originally composed as that kind of song? Or did it become that way through AZUKI’s lyrics and Mr. Furui’s arrangement? （Garnet Crow Lovers’ Association, Kanagawa）
A. The melody was originally like that. I was surprised too when the lyrics came in. Because I’m the seeker…

Q. Which song was the most difficult for you while making the album? And which song do you feel most attached to? （Hinata, Yamagata）
A. The most difficult was “Anywhere,” and the song I feel most attached to is “WEEKEND.”

Q. When you make a song, do you start with Nakamura’s composition or AZUKI’s lyrics? And at what stage do Mr. Okamoto and Mr. Furui join the songwriting process? （Mr. Mister, Nara）
A. I make a demo first, then pass it on to AZUKI and Mr. Furui. Sometimes the lyrics and arrangement are finished around the same time, and sometimes one comes together first. Once the arrangement is finalized, Okamocchi records the guitar.
