December is almost here.
Little by little, the city is about to plunge into its annual, full-scale Christmas battle...
But more than that, perhaps many people find nostalgia in the simply hectic atmosphere of the end of the year and New Year’s, the ineffable sacredness and silence brought on by the winter chill, the celebration that may or may not have a basis, and the mixture of excitement and hibernation with mandarins in the kotatsu.
In a way, New Year’s is absolutely New Year’s, and I feel that a certain boredom and sense of repetition are part of its character.
Christmas, on the other hand, seems to keep searching for some new idea every year.
It still feels as though it has not quite taken root as a culture in Japan.
Come to think of it, Santa Claus comes in an amusing variety of forms.
From the classic, big-bellied Santa with a magnificent white beard to a tall, slender Santa in a shop window who looks surprisingly good once you take off his sunglasses, there are all kinds.
Character goods, shop clerks, and manga all transform people of every age and gender into Santa around this time of year.
However—ladies wandering around under the cold sky in Santa costumes that are practically swimsuits and soliciting customers are not acceptable, I say. To exploit and nibble away at a sacred world of dreams and a culture that originated in another country in that way seems wrong.
Well. New Year’s over Christmas!
I have stayed up for the year-end countdown these past few years, so perhaps I will go ring the temple bell on New Year’s Eve for the first time in a while.
Yes, I’ll ring it with gusto!

Happy New Year, everyone!!
This is Furui from GARNET CROW.
I feel as though I say the same thing every year, but the year really does seem to fly by.
Or am I the only one who feels that way?
I have plenty left undone and many things to reflect on, but what kind of year did you all have?

That said, as I write this article, the Christmas mood is still in full swing (汗).
There is no countdown live this year, so it feels a little lonely and lacking somehow—
but we already have a live show planned for next year, so let’s look forward to that (笑).

In 2013, we are planning to release an album as well as perform live.
As for our current progress, we can see almost the entire picture and are in the final stage of adjustments.
How is the album turning out? Well—if I had to put it in one phrase, perhaps I would call it “a mature feeling...”
There are cool slow songs and songs that will be fun to play live, and in the end a variety of song types will sit side by side. I am looking forward to the track order being finalized.
Everyone will feel it differently, but I think it has turned into a work you will be happy with.

So, while looking forward to the album and the live shows, I hope 2013 will be a wonderful year for all of you!!
