Hello, everyone! This is Yurippe, who loves tea.
At last, the season when it is comfortable to be outside has arrived—a time when you feel like making lavish use of your time by going out, reading, shopping, or watching movies.
This summer was another succession of sweltering, brutally hot days, so taking care of our health was quite a challenge.
From here on, I want to eat lots of delicious things and enjoy stylish tea parties during the long autumn evenings.
I like herbal teas and drink many different kinds, but the one I really got into this summer was peppermint tea.
Its cool, refreshing taste and crisp aroma seemed to ease the summer heat a little, so I drank it often.
Peppermint is also said to stimulate the stomach and aid digestion, as well as relieve stomachaches and abdominal pain, making it a perfect herb for a tired body.

I was thinking, “The lingering summer heat is severe this year...” when suddenly it was already October. While I stared at the calendar thinking, “This isn’t summer anymore!!,” autumn had begun in a single day. Strange. In one night, the air changed so completely that it could no longer be called summer, with no sign of returning to it.
I took out my phone on the subway to jot down notes for this column, and the man beside me immediately admonished me. That car was designated for turning mobile phones off. I had noticed out of the corner of my eye that there was a sticker on the window showing a crossed-out mobile phone, but I had assumed from the image that it meant “no calls; please use silent mode.”
You really have to check properly. It is embarrassing not to realize that you are breaking the rules of public conduct until someone points it out.
I will be careful.
After getting off the subway, I came to a moving walkway. “All right, I’ll hurry along...” I thought, but then an announcement said, “When using the walkway, hold the handrail and stand inside the yellow line.” ...So we are not supposed to move!? Is it okay to walk inside the line while holding the handrail? While I stood there trying to figure it out, the walkway ended. Even walking down the street is difficult.
On the way home, I bought Kaoru Hasuike’s “Abduction and Decision,” which was displayed in a stack at the bookstore. It is abnormal that not all of the victims have been able to return home. How can they come to another country and do such things? If a neighbor in your apartment building caused trouble, or came into someone else’s home and did whatever they pleased, you would deal with it, right? Why do we leave a neighboring country that says and does such strange things unchecked?
These days, the spread of information on the internet makes it possible to learn about all kinds of activities. Even when the mass media filters them out, it is easy to find out about street campaigns, petition drives, demonstrations, and so on.
The other day, I was walking near a public-awareness street campaign when I heard a couple walking behind someone carrying the Japanese national flag jeer, “A soldier! A soldier!” What kind of country makes people point fingers at you simply for carrying your own national flag!? I felt furious.
When you pay attention, you notice that even on national holidays, hardly any shops in town display the national flag. I remember flags fluttering everywhere when I was a child. I also remember footage of the United States flying many Stars and Stripes flags as it worked toward recovery after 9/11. It raises morale when a country is working toward recovery. Japan has really lost its way when even many public schools and public facilities raise the flag reluctantly only after being told to do so.
Hmm. I seem to have done nothing but grumble.
Lately I have been completely immersed in making GARNET.AL, facing the songs every day.
